Those look like TrackSpec hood vents.

https://trackspecmotorsports.com/universal
i got them from genright. But they do look very similar.

Unfortunately it didn’t seem to help that much. I still saw 250 oil temps on my drive home up the steep grade. It’s about 3000ft over 10 miles. It seemed to take longer to heat up but it’s definitely not the solution.

Has anyone installed a cold case radiator and if so did it actually help.

I installed a secondary oil cooler. It works.
It is detailed in this thread. I installed 42” tires a few weeks back (5.13 gears). I’m over 7k now. Still works. I can turn on the oil cooler fan in the middle of pulling a grade when Im watching the oil temps go up. Oil temps stop climbing and will drop about 7*. If I have the fan running before hitting a grade temps do not go above 240*.
With the 42’s my RPM’s have decreased…not as much oil being pushed through the oil cooler. This has a 1/2* negative effect on cooling vs the 40’s I replaced.

I promised to post some pictures on our trip. This one was taken between Provo Utah and Snowville on a moderate hill. Ambient temps were low today until we got into Idaho. Winds were very bad and were mostly against us. Some really big hills forced me to drop to 55mph a couple of times. Highest observed oil temp was 258, briefly, on a long. hill. My DEF consumption was extremely high in my opinion. 2+ gallons in less than 1,000 miles. I’ll try to post some more. Wind made it difficult today.

I meant to mention that this is pulling our 22 foot Rockwood Mini-Lite trailer. Best mileage on trip so far was Flagstaff to Page (18.7@ 55-60mph) worst was Snowville to Twin Falls (11 mpg, 60-65mph).

These rigs seem to chug def when towing. I burned 2.5 gallons in 1600 miles after tune.

I emailed cold case 2x. First they said they don’t offer diesel radiators. Second time I could part numbers and what not to prove the all 3 engines use the same radiator in a wrangler and gladiator. I offered to test fit with no reply.

our thermostats are 208 degrees with no offering for any other options. Randy at reckless motor sports (bad rep in the fob groups) did comment that he drills some bypass holes in the thermostat to improve flow. I’ve done this on cars and my 1952 Willy’s. Takes a little longer to warm up but bleeds air out and stabilizes the temps better.

may be time to test that cold case radiator and thermostat holes ?.

another idea is to run evans coolant. It pulls more heat from an engine into the coolant system which can cause higher coolant temp readings….in my exp about 5-8 degrees but it does help to prevent coolant temp spikes. I have 3 vehicles running the waterless coolant as of now.

0 psi on the coolant system helps to keep everything living longer.

It helps if you ever stop in the heat. If you turn the truck off then get back in in 10-15 the temps are crazy high from the factory. It heat soaks everything and gets hotter then will derate when mergin on the highway. Now with all the venting it actually cools down when engine is off. Realllyyyy helps off-road when starting stopping ona. Trail.

In my bikes and Nismo. I use Engine Ice coolant. It helping a lot with water temps on the track. Wonder how it would do in the JT?

I haven’t seen high oil temps off roading yet. The only time I saw increased temps was going fast on dirt roads for an extended period. Crawling the temps stay low. It probably helps that I use the tazr to turn the radiator fan on high.

I used the tazr to turn the fans on prior to getting on the freeway and going up a pass at highway speeds and temps stayed in the 230s. I turned it off and then climbed into the high 240s immediately. Unfortunately you can only turn it on below 60 mph. I think a bigger fan and having the ability to toggle it on would significantly help.

Just did that pass. Same issues. The heat that was coming from under the steering wheel was ridiculously hot anyone else experience this issue?

I added amsoil coolant boost and it did nothing. I did just pour it in the resevoir.

Thanks for your response. Makes me feel better. Bought three boxes at Walmart on the way to Hood river.

No heat under the steering wheel that I could feel. The AC in our rig works very well. Lots of wind and hills from Nampa to Hood River today. Worst fuel mileage I have gotten, even on the flat or descent. Had to slow to just under 50mph a couple of times to control the oil temp. Highest temp today was 262. Wanted to take pictures but just too much wind and big diesels passing to risk it. Temps dropped immediately on the downhill, load reduction and/or shifting down when I could.
