I noticed this morning when I stopped for a cup of coffee and left the gladiator running when I got back in the start stop had activated and the heater was blowing cool air. Once the Jeep started back up heat return to normal temperature. Is this normal, or did I somehow miss it in the 3 years that I've owned my jeep?

Engine stop, therefore water pump stop, therefore hot coolant no flow and thermostat shut, therefore no hot water going through heater core, therefore no heat to make air hot, therefore no hot air when truck off. hope this helps.

If you got out of the car and left it running, it wasn't a stop start event that shut off the engine. Maybe you got out of the car but the ignition was still on with the engine off? That would explain the fan blowing cold air on a cool day.

Yea, ESS does not engage if JT is in park.

I think I neglected to mention this is a manual 6 speed. It was in neutral with parking brake applied.

This does not sound like ESS at all. Just sounds like you turned off the engine but not the truck.

As for the "heat affected" part, yeah of course your heat is going to not work when the engine isn't running. That's how the heating system works on pretty much every vehicle ever made.

I appreciate the input Sharp. I am well aware of how the heat works in an automobile. I am also positive the truck was running and in the on position when I got out of the jeep. That's why it was in neutral with the parking brake on. As I stated earlier. So what you're saying is your gladiator blows cold air at a red light with the ESS active?

I'm going to go out to the driveway now and check to see what is going on.

I have had my ebrake to the dealership three times to readjusted/ tightened as the jeep would creep while it was engaged. They found it to be loose each time. I wonder if this could be affecting the ESS as I almost positive mine will activate with the parking brake engaged. I currently have it running in the driveway to see if I can get it to turn on with the parking brake engaged and the jeep running.

I would think that the E brake should prevent an ess event, so should the seatbelt. I guess if you had work done to the brake that could explain that reason, but the seatbelt or the door switch would prevent an ess event.

I think something else is going on. If you can duplicate the issue, it should be easy to resolve.

If it's off long enough, sure. Can only blow hot for so long until the coolant needs to cycle more heat into the core.

If it needs to heat up the cabin, it will turn the engine back on automatically as a 'Cabin Heating' state is programmed in to prevent ESS.

I’ll add in that it’s also normal for the A/C to not blow as cold either, when engaged.

Can’t help much, but I do have a manual as well and often leave it running (neutral, p-brake on) when I make quick trips inside places. I’ve never had what you are describing happen. But I also have a tazer that automatically disables ESS when I turn on the vehicle.

I have attached a video. Sorry it's a bit long. You can clearly see the ESS is activated. The Jeep is running, in neutral and the parking brake is applied. It stayed that way until I tapped the clutch. So based on the responses I've gotten thus far this should not actually be happening. Am I correct in saying that? Before I try remedying the situation or contacting the dealer. I thought I'd get your feedback and or ideas.
