Well let's see here stock my diesel got 28.6 miles to the gallon. I drove from home to Fresno on half a tank average 24 miles to the gallon. Around town I average about 20 to 22 miles per gallon. Best I've ever gotten was 35 miles per gallon. Since putting on the OVRLND camper. I probably average 21 miles per gallon.

Crappy pic but I just towed my 2500 lbs loaded 5x10 enclosed trailer 6000 miles cross country from Seattle to North Carolina and back. I generally only get 11.2 mpg to 13.7 mpg around town where I live due to 1000 elevation changes and hills just about every time I leave the house (12.3 mpg overall avg). I got 10.3 mpg to 15.9 mpg (!!!) towing with a 13.8 mpg overall average.

I found it hilarious that my best mileage was when it was brand new 100% stock all highway at 14.3 mpg...then I get 15.9 towing lol...now granted I had a bit of a tailwind on that tank. I had really low expectations on mileage towing and brought jerry cans in case, but I averaged 13.8 mpg for the whole trip on 37s and 5.38 gears driving between 60-70 mph, which is better than my 12.3 mpg overall average the first 24k miles.

Not gonna lie though...I sometimes regret not getting the diesel because the 3.6 is gutless especially towing at altitude or with a headwind. But the reliability issues of the diesel and inability to delete the shit off of it swayed me back to gas. My trailer is relatively light at 2500 lbs loaded and the motor struggled in the hills and wind...cant imagine someone pulling 6k-7k lbs. My trailer will also fit in a garage and at a very similar height and width of the Jeep so I literally have a best case scenario for efficiency of a cargo trailer.

Cheers

How we do it is we drive, and when we need gas we fill up. Just like anyone else.

The gas JT isn't a bad tow rig. Diesel-bros just seem to want to invent reasons to flex I guess.
Oil burners seem to run hot, just like their overheating engines……

Is there any way to actually do a DEF delete on a gladiator?
Sure, just do some research on it (Google EOC in Canada). Know that its NOT legal in the U.S., but has been done. I'm in the camp where Ill stay stock and hope I get 100k miles out of it. I usually get a new vehicle around that milage. A dealer won't take a vehicle in trade if its been deleted. I think most of those who delete keep it for the long hall (and live in a state without emissions testing).

We find it easier because we don't have to go to the bank before filling up lol

Oh waaaa. My V10 34’ motorhome towing my 2022 Gladiator on 35’s gets 6-7 mpg. The price you pay to play is the way I look at it.

In many cases when you add just 2”, never mind 3-5” of overall tire height, plus change the wheels? The gas mileage is effected not only by the extra hight, but the extra weight. The extra weight uses more fuel/gas from a dead stop to spen up the extra weight, then the hight effects the leverage at speed that uses more energy. The other issue with added wheel/tire weight is from what’s called unsprung weight, that requires stronger shocks to help keep them under control and in contact with the ground. If you’re planning on towing? Keep the original tires and wheels for towing trips, use Apple Car Play with a good speed/distance app to keep track with gps. The engines both has a diesel are only 3.6&3.0, that are expected to do the same work towing as the biger V8’s.

Man.... My 23 Mojave on 37s and a tiny lift... I get maybe 13mpg around town, I could drive easier, but you know... places to be. Probably 17-18 if I stayed on the highway a while...

I went to pick up a new trailer on Monday, about 300 miles one way. On the way up there I got around 27.5 mpg, average about 70mph. On the way back I was at about 13mpg. I felt like I spent more time at the fuel station than on the interstate. Do the gasoline versions have bigger gas tanks? I swear it felt like by the time I merged back onto the interstate I was already 1/8 tank down.

I guess im spoiled with my average of 24mpg mixed driving with my Diesel. Godspeed out there my gasoline brothers, I'll see you at the next fuel stop.

I record mileage meticulously and drive to optimize like a miser.

Maybe downwind no trailer on the way, upwind towing trailer on the way back?

My manual tranny Sport is very condition dependent. Into the wind at 50 MPH, maybe 22 MPG. Downwind at 60 MPH, sometimes almost 28 MPG (with summer low butane gasoline).

Winter v. summer fuel? Low energy butane content (more in winter) makes a huge diffence and lowered typical MPG by 2-5.

Lots of variables. YMMV!

I wanted to chuckle at this, but I couldn't. I suppose partially because it hurts and partially because grammar.
