My 2020 Ram 1500 Limited weighed in at ~6100lbs. Had 22" Rims on 32" tires. 3.92 gearing and got 22mpg on the highway. In rural settings it was crusing at 19mpg.

Had a Hemi V8.
Same with mine except it had a V6 in it. I can't touch that gas mileage in my JT

It's not weight, it's aero. The jeep coefficient is so horrendous that any motor will do significantly worse in it than in something else. The ram on the other hand has excellent aero with front spoiler, way lower, unexposed tires. Just compare the ram 3.6 vs the gladiator and you'll see the gladiator is about 15% less efficient in stock form, never mind once we lift, upside tires etc. With the hemi you would get about 14.5 city/18.5 hwy mpg which jives with 392 mpgs in the wrangler at 13/16

The R2.8 Cummins I think would be a bit small for the gladiator. I did the conversion to an 05 rubicon LJ and it’s a good upgrade for that size vehicle though.
What about a 2 door JK? Think the 2.8 is too small for that? I'm debating on V8 vs R2.8 swap for my 2 door and have read that the TJ platform is about as big as you'd want to go for the power it puts out. I'm also iffy on all of the emissions stuff for the 2.8 but don't want a rattletrap'd 4BT.

No thanks. I want a 5.7 hemi standard on the higher trim levels and a 392 option. Not a 2.0 e torque, not a 3.6 e torque, not a 4xe. HEMI! IDK why manufacturers can't grasp this concept. IF a full size hemi pickup is getting better avg mpg than the midsize. GIVE IT THE SAME DAMN MOTOR!

I get that and I agree... but the entire reason why it hasn't happened and will not is the government's regulations and meddling with the automakers. Corporate Average Fuel Economy rules everything, and the Feds already got Stellantis on the diesel emissions not being accurate amongst labor and other issues. The company is under a microscope across the board, from NLRB to EPA.

And, when you couple that higher power motor to a vehicle with all the aerodynamic qualities of a brick wall, you're going to get worse MPG that drives that CAFE number down further.

The 3.6 doesn't really get much better MPG when you compare Ram vs Ram. The way I drive, I'd probably get worse MPG with the V6.

It's all the rage now. Iam curious how many of us are jealous of the new Tacoma powerplant and other trucks moving to smaller displacement motors.
Talking to a Jeep Engineer at EJS, 3rd Qtr of 2025 we will see new powplants for the JL and JT. A version of the 3.0l Hurricane twin turbo straight 6-cyl and a Hybrid.

Only if it is running a generator to supply power to batteries and electric drive axles...

I had a 2.0T JLUR and it was ok. Liked the turbo for driving up mountain passes. Didn't like the 2.0 displacement or lack there of for engine braking or lack there of on long descents.

What about the added expense of repairs vs a regular gas engine to things like the turbos after the warranty runs out?

What about a 2 door JK? Think the 2.8 is too small for that? I'm debating on V8 vs R2.8 swap for my 2 door and have read that the TJ platform is about as big as you'd want to go for the power it puts out. I'm also iffy on all of the emissions stuff for the 2.8 but don't want a rattletrap'd 4BT.
It is all opinion right?

literally working on putting together our next Jeep now- LJ, 2.8, atlas and 40’s.

the JK’s worked with the 3.6…. They will definitely work with the torque of a 2.8 Cummins…. Now if your trying to drag race while also maintain crawling??? Sure hemi swap is the way to go…. ??‍♂ will never understand a v8 swap in jeeps…. But then again I try to maintain 300+ miles of off road range and v8 folks don’t care that they get 150-200 miles of off road range. Suppose this comes down to “where” you off road.

I swear it feels like I am one of very few that buy vehicles with the intent of owning beyond a standard warranty and have zero problems working on all of them myself. :|

modern vehicles with turbos should not be looked at as over complicated or added maintenance etc…. Just maintain to spec and they should last about as long as a high pressure fuel pump- 120k or so. Benefit outweighs the cost….

Those aren’t much bigger than an LJ so I think it would be a fine option for it. 4bt is cool, had one in a LJ as well, but gets annoying after a while.

Adding a turbo to an engine is just another thing that can break. I'll pass. I think the only turbo gas engine I think is worthwhile for longevity is Ford's 2.7L.
