FCA just bought back my 25 4XE. It was a disaster. Thankfully it worked out for me much better than it has for most who are now stuck with vehicles that don’t function as intended and are plummeting in value.
I've been saying for several years that the 4xe was going to be a disaster outside of warranty. Some didn't even make it to the end of their warranty. The batteries don't last and they depreciate quickly. They don't make sense to own financially unless you've got a lot of money to burn and don't care about resell.

The batteries weren’t the problem whatsoever. And the idea that 10k battery replacements on EVs in 10 years is a problem, doesn’t make any sense. In 10 years, an ICE vehicle requires way more money in maintenance by then. Remember, that’s the only major maintenance. And most manufacturers warranty the batteries for 10 years.

There are a lot of 4xe's needing replacement batteries. Jeep only warrantied the batteries for 8 years or 100,000 miles.

My 10-year-old 2015 Ram EcoDiesel hasn't needed any engine repairs and I'm at 136,000 miles.

But other manufacturers do 10 year. I did say most manufacturers in my post that you carved up.

And I didn’t say engine repairs. I said maintenance period, with the exceptions I listed. Again, carved out of your cherry picked quote. How much money total have you spent on maintenance on your ram, excluding tires and wipers/fluid? How much money in diesel has gone in?

That might be true, but we're talking about the 4xe. There was a thread on the Wrangler forum in which people were dumping their 4xes before the 100,000-mile warranty was up because of all the problems including battery replacements. Thankfully the aftermarket has stepped up and has offered a more affordable battery and labor cost, but many 4xe owners didn't feel comfortable keeping the 4xe post warranty.

My maintenance costs are very low, but that's partly because of how we operate the vehicles. My wife and I carpool, so we don't spend very much money on maintenance (8-mile drive to work). I change oil about once every 8 months on the 2015. Most of the miles comes from long road trips or towing.

Our 2023 Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel has 6,500 miles. It still has one more free oil change. So far, it hasn't cost us anything but diesel fuel and DEF.

The 2020 Ram EcoDiesel is a designated tow rig, but we still average 8,000 - 10,000 miles per year towing. Diesel fuel, DEF, two air filters, and two fuel filters, and 7 - 8 month oil changes. otherwise, no additional maintenance has been required.

The 4xe is costing Stellantis a lot of money due to recalls and warranty repairs, which is most likely a big reason for its cancelation. It's not a good platform for those who want long-term ownership.

It never was, but the PHEV idea isn’t the problem. Stellantis just screwed the pooch. Plenty of others work flawlessly.

Nah, the #1 reason - Rebates
Take away the rebates and make people pay the actual cost, and it's no longer popular.
Yeah. I upgraded my Gladiator Sport manual to a Rubicon thanks to $10k off sticker with some of those rebates as well...

You switched from the manual to the dark side.

Hear, hear!

I actually went backwards in model year on two separate trucks, specifically to get a manual in the color I wanted from the beginning. Prior to the manual, I read all the hate on these forums for it. Once in the manual, I guess I just sort of got too busy enjoying rowing gears to care, lol.

My wifes Tesla works flawlessly, used, 130k miles, charges in the cold, runs in the cold, 130 miles a day... Winds up paying use about 200 a week to own lol.

People get their feelings and their politics way too wound up in what propels their vehicles.

I’m not a Tesla fan, but I still agree with everything you said.

Not a fan of EV’s of any variety but I feel for those that got financially impacted.
