This is the best answer. Why not just do this?
Yes, but not too much less. Good body shop who I’m friends with quoted 8-10k to do the job right. Didn’t sound like they were too happy with all the work that’s involved.

Sadly I believe that Jeep is doing themselves a dis-service by raising the prices so much since the new model year came out. I do wish I had not drug my feet last year and ordered a MY21. I ordered in late Jan. and got an increase myself and it has went up since then. I think that is going to have a negative impact on sales. JMO. This is already a very high priced vehicle for what it is let alone raising prices.

As someone that has worked in finance over the last 20 years you cannot and should not go off kbb value ever. It’s not accurate to regional demographics. I’d almost be willing to bet you the dealership would offer thousands more for a well kept/ maintained gladiator currently.

If you do repaint aren't you supposed to update your insurance info to reflect that since it's permanent? I don't think you have to for a wrap.

That's inflation.

MY21 JTR base price: $45k
MY22 JTR base price: $48k

Anything new as standard equipment? Engine output, wheels, bumpers, electrics, anything?

Nope. And that's going to cost you. And let's not forget the $1500 destination charge.

One year to the day that I bought my first Jeep, Gobi became available. Lets be clear about this: there is no color that fits a Jeep as well as Gobi does! My plan was to trade in my firecracker red JT if Gobi ever became available again, only reason I would ever trade in my beautiful Rosalita. I didn't expect Gobi to come back so soon, however this should not be a problem as Jeeps hold their value so well and it seems everyone on this forum gets great offers. Yesterday I went fishing for offers on my 2021 well loaded Sport S with 8,500 miles and an original MSRP of $48,050. So lets take a look at my offers:
Carvana $32,054
Kelly Blue Book $36,819
Vroom $37,960
Autolenders $39,2000 -estimate

OK so I didn't pay MSRP for my JT, got it from Tri-City Jeep at 6% under in voice. Still some real lowballing going on here. So lets look at my loaded Sport S one year later:
2021 $48,050
2022 $52, 725
That's a $4,675 price increase for the next model year with the same options. Also got $2,000 in incentives for the 2021, Jeep currently has no cash offers for 2022 models. Would also have to pay sales tax 6.25 % in New Jersey and dealer fees again. When I tally up the numbers, selling my JT and ordering a new Gobi will set me back about $12,000 + and in return I get Gobi, proximity doors (not by choice, Jeep shenanigans shuffle Popular equipment & technology packages) and the new model year.
Rosie and I will just celebrate her birthday and continue our adventures together...
I’d pay a few thousand to have it professionally painted in GOBI and get everything you want for way less money.

Secondly, Jeeps have great resale but only waiting one model year will not take advantage of that ... Only waiting a single model year (where the maximum depreciation is) is never going to yield good results ... You lost thousands the second you drove it off the lot ...
Generally I'd agree with everything you said especially this point, but we've seen cray used prices for about a year now. Last year in May, I had a carvana offer for $1k less than I paid for mine a year prior. That's not normal and something to take advantage of. I've read on the forum about a few members who had. I ultimately didn't because I would have spent 8-10k more to move to a Mojave with more bells and whistles.

Unfortunately, jumping from MY21 to MY22 is now much more expensive than it ever was to go from MY20 to MY21. Moral of the story, if there's nothing wrong with your current rig, enjoy the sh*t out of it. If you want to trade, you're probably still taking less of a hit than you normally would

Anyone suggesting painting his JT a different color can more than likely wipe out future trade-in value and/or 3rd parties like Carvana. Most will immediately assume you're hiding an accident or some type of damage. "Oh I just wanted to change the color" doesn't translate on a Carfax or dealer report when it shows Firecracker red and looks light brown.

Frank, the million dollar question you need to ask yourself: what delta are you comfortable with?

Board members here are throwing out quotes from different years, different locations, different specs, different dealers, different tax rates, etc. You need to find who can maximize your trade-in and then give you the best purchase price. Then you decide if that best delta is something you can live with.

Couple things to think about (I know how I am and you may be the same): how much money are you willing to pay for the right truck for you? Although Gobi is returning, there's no guarantee it's going to be around for that long (we know how Jeep swaps out its colors) and if you miss this 2022 opportunity, who knows when it will return again? Food for thought.

Thanks, and that factors highly into the equation: Gobi is here now and on a limited run. After that any though of selling my Gladiator is moot. I’m extremely happy with the vehicle and have no desire for anything else. I know that rowing my own gears limits the offers I’m receiving, however I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I'm not an expert but its a jeep ... And, your talking about a basic paint color. You may be good friends with the guy but if they are gonna charge $10,000 to paint a jeep a single color that is not a "process" color or some other show quality paint system with tons of clear coat and multiple steps, that seems like a TON OF MONEY ....

But as I said I'm no expert and maybe some one in the know will educate me ... But, if that is the cost of a paint job these days, holy scheight !!!

Two things I’d add. Do you want Gobi? If yes, take Dirk’s advice. If no, great you love your firecracker JT. But, don’t wait. Gecko, as an example, only ran maybe 3-4 months. It was a short window. You know what they say about those who hesitate….I hope you get what you want, but I think you’ve already decided anyway. Post up some pics of that Gobi JT when you pick it up.

That isn't true. 8.4 and Proximity locks became Standard on Rubicon , Mojave, and a couple other trims in 2022. That's like $2500 and accounts for most of the price increase.

Don't blame Jeep for pricing you out of the color you want, it's everywhere, everything. I know of nothing that has gone down in price in the last year. You want a good deal on a Gladiator of your color choice, wait until gas gets $6+ a gal, you can pick and choose to your little farts content. A hard rain is gonna fall (that's a metaphor not a weather prediction). I like the Gobi, but the price of pith helmets priced me out of the market. Go figure.

Absolutely correct if history plays out again. Bought my current Toyota Tundra crew cab back in 2008 amidst $4.00/gal gas prices and paid $23,000 out the door. Nobody wanted a truck or other gas guzzler and the dealers were desperate to make deals. The Prius on the other hand was going for $25,000 plus and rising. The tundra wasn't that bad with 23 hwy and 17 city. They stopped making hummers and other like vehicles around then too.
