Congratulations and condolences.Well, “darn”. Put an early end to our 10 day hunting and 4x4 expedition. Now we have to wander back to Colorado with 2 cow elk added to the payload. One day of scouting and one very short morning put a quick end to that vacation ...
Bottom line on the JTR on this trip: Awesome. Certainly dragged the belly and hitch more times than I can count but that limitation never stopped us. Deep old snow certainly did but we went farther up than any other vehicles including trucks, side by sides, and 4wheelers. By a substantial distance. I am sure that chains and lockers made a substantial difference for us. Overall I am super impressed with the stock capability of my rig.

Won’t go back to CO for a few days as I need to see family in St. George and Salt Lake City. I suspect we are close to max payload. Definitely feels squishy now. But I still need to load up all our food and clothing we left in the hotel. The 2 elk are pushing 500 lbs is my guess. They are quartered and skinned but with bones. I guess 50 - 70 lbs for each hind and 35 - 50 for front quarters. Likely another 75 lbs for the straps and scraps. Good thing it is below freezing across most of Utah as they exceed the capacity of my two large coolers.Congratulations and condolences.
How much do you think each elk weighs? With gear and occupants do you think you exceeded payload for the JTR? How was the return trip with all the extra weight
