A more detailed view of the ill-fated Yankee Hill adventure. Got some trail damage on the Jeep. The Rivian and Bronco made it out fine.

Finally had some good weather on a day off today so took a little loop of a drive - and while I was gone a couple bank robbers came into town from Idaho and held up the travel center taking hostages. There were at least 25 cops still there on my way back, and 15 heading back to their county with a small APC and two L-ATV's. I think one is dead, but a hostage or two is in the hospital unfortunately. And took the county and SWAT 4 hours to take care of the situation despite a bunch of civilians carrying. What a SNAFU. Shoulda gotten gas at that station this morning...would have been a non issue.

Anyway.....The reservation has some pretty spectacular places. And some pretty nasty clay-mud

But the Mission Mountains are spectacular, and very special. This place just captivates my heart in a way no other place has. It is mysterious.

Checking on some known camping spots on the Rez. A lot of people in the area hate the reservation. This is one of the cleaner ones, and safer ones for the most part. But this tiny BLM spot on the Rez is a place I have wanted to camp for a few years - gotta get that RTT on. Snow wasn't too terrible, although almost needed lockers to get out with the slush and gumbo.

I don't think there will be anymore ice fishing for the year. But it's still in the low teens at night. Gotta find a heating solution for the tent to extend camping season.

I forget, you have a good battery system right?
I’m pretty confident that with a warm sleeping bag (which could do it by itself anyway) and a heated blanket you could sleep in some pretty cold weather.

I do, the Genesis system. But the aux battery is pretty small. Based on seeing what amount of power some youtubers use with the lithium power packs I probably would need at least 2 more AGM’s to power one longer than half the night. But the tent is going on next weekend hopefully with some help and I am working up plans for either a gas or diesel heater. I think those would be a little more efficient on battery use. But I do have a 20 degree bag and a lot of long johns. I probably could start camping out now since night temps arent getting below 0 anymore and daytime high today was low 50 in the valleys.

Nice guess but we’re on Tortolita Pass between Catalina and Marana.

I spent 20 minutes spraying all that junk off. I have at least that much further to go. I hate mud. Awesome day on the trail and the last 45 minutes of it were spent slogging through muddy access roads to get back to civilization.

Thought you had big battery in the bed, must’ve been someone else🤷‍♂️. Even a jackery type device could run a blanket, not necessarily a huge house battery.
Diesel heater would be nice!

Heard it was snowing in Big Bend yesterday. Had to go see for myself. It was a great trip that really changes the beauty of Big Bend. My son had the chance to drive some easy trails and learn a little about 4 wheeling in his tundra too.

I have the factory group 31 sitting on the porch (since the two genesis batteries are under the hood). I am planning to put that in the bed but I haven't decided on how to mount it yet. Battery boxes online don't seem to meet all that I am looking for thus far. Hoping to have a solution figured out here in a month or two.
