Someone can correct me if I’m wrong. But ALL eco-diesels in JL/JTs run CP4s. None run CP3s. And since its a V6 and not an I6 its alot harder to just throw in a single pump compared to a dual pump due to timing. The pump would have to run at a different speed unlike in the Y78 recall for the cummins

You can remove the engine cover and maybe use an inspection mirror to see behind that pump cover. That cover does looks like CP3 under it though.

Looks like CP4.2 to me with two fuel lines coming in on the top. If I recall correctly from last week, the top of one pump will be visible in the cutout on the left. Seeing the top of the one pump is all you need to know to tell it is not a CP3.

Took my Jeep in for its last Jeep Wave oil service today.

I asked my service writer about the recall, he said still no parts available. However, he said he’s only seen on ecodiesel with a bad fuel pump since they’ve come out. This makes me wonder how closely related this is to geographic regions and contaminated or bad fuel?

It’s possible the recall is just kicking the can. They probably heat treat the lobe or roller and call it “updated” just to avoid lawsuits.

I'm out of town on business for the week. I do have a bore snake camera, and will sneak it in to get a better look when I get back next weekend.

Or maybe it is like with fighter jets: that pump has killed 6 Jeeps so far.

Sorry, just stirring the pot. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what the recall replacement pump will be and if they expand the recall to cover all engines with the 4.2. Not holding my breath, though, it will probably be a while before we know.
For now, that pump has a higher kill rating than a US F22!

I played around with my bore camera and it does look like a CP4 pump. I was able to get a shot of the dimple pattern. 3 in one row and one in the other:

Interesting, different dimple count than the original dimple post.

A few bits of info, take it for what its worth:

S&S Diesel offers an array of CP3 conversions and happen to be in KY. I reached out to them a few weeks back to see if they'd explore a CP3 conversion for the EcoD. I was told it was on their radar but they aren't seeing anywhere near enough failures to justify developing a kit despite an open recall.

Speaking to EcoD Owners of Canada tuning, they said they have yet to see a CP4 on a Ram or Jeep fail due to lack of lubrication while on CA diesel regardless if additive is used. That said, he recommends double-dosing a lubricant to every single US based customer he tunes for given our terrible diesel. That plus not running at full-load with less than 1/4 tank. Product-wise he said both LX4 and ArchOil AR6500 (which I had never heard of) seem to not only provide the lubrication needed but increase MPG better than most.

I know I'd certainly feel different if mine happened to fail but it seems like the closer we get to folks in the industry, the more hyperbole the subject feels.

My jeep was in the dealer since Dec 31, 2022 for a blown CP4 pump. My Vin doesn't show up under the recall but the dealer confirmed that the CP4 went out and shot metal debris through the entire fuel system. The dealer finally got all the parts for the fuel system, including the replacement pump which was another CP4. Picked it up on Friday after about 45 days at the dealer and Saturday morning came back home from driving to the store to find my jeep pissing diesel all the engine and driveway. So it was towed back to the dealer and is supposed to be looked/fixed again first thing Monday. And apparently the dealer had their "master master tech" working on it. He even forgot to put the engine cover back after he approved it was completed and ready to be released.

Here is the write up if anyone is interested.

"Master Master tech". Lol what a joke.

I remember checking my Grand Cherokee after my Ecodiesel engine was replace when it destroyed some valves from cam slip.. tons of fasteners, bolts, heat shields, wire looms all left unsecured.

Dealerships are a joke today, they just want to get you out the door as quick as possible. Damn the quality of work.

It's because no one is held accountable for failures anymore. It may hurt their "feelings".

It's not just the dealers or auto repair....I feel it's humans in general. I have zero patience or tolerance for mediocrity either, so that amplifies the irritation for me.
