First, as already mentioned, Mohave never came with the EcoDiesel, and for good reason. Too heavy for the softer suspension of the Mohave.

Rubicon diesels are out there, but be ready to search a bit, pay a little more for them and likely have to travel to get one. I was extremely lucky one arrived at my local dealership as I was test driving a Mohave. I bought it before it was even put on the lot. Also, do your research and make sure it will work for you and your needs as they do have some quirks (not great for short commutes, have heat control issues with heavier loads, etc).

I absolutely love my diesel, but I'm also familiar with them and willing to work through their specific issues.

As far as shops in SE MN, Zues Offroad does some great work. They aren't SE per-se, but the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area.

That depends on your comfort level of keeping a vehicle that has 95,000 miles on it. Are you confident it’ll give you many more years (and miles) of trouble free existance? If you’re confident in it (and Jeep), then keep it and build it.

The fact that you’re here asking…. You might be a little ‘concerned’ about its age/mileage.

Not saying that a newer - used (with less miles) isn’t going to have problems ….Trading for a newer one….. It’ll have everything you want (lockers & gearing) from factory. You can spend that $$ for other upgrades…..

If that were me…I’d probably trade-in for the newer one. Hopefully, the amount of $ you’ll get for the 2020 in trade…., will greatly reduce the cash you need to put forth and you won’t need a loan.

Been down this road. Started with a sport 6MT and started building it but eventually went to a Rubi AT. Use case is needed. Are you wheeling it or just keeping it a DD? If you are wheeling it, the 4:1 tcase, gears, lockers, swaybar, and fenders are great built in advantages and can get you a long way.

In in SE MN as well, Rochester. The owner of the local 4x4 shop here passed. Ive taken my JT to zues or lakeville offroad

I just had the same deliemma and I choose to trade my 2020 Overland with 77K miles for a 2024 Rubicon... I had $22K in equity and financed $25K for a new Gladiator with warranty.

Granted, I now owe $25K but I absolutely love the Rubicon and the new interior/infotainment update.

25k would go a long ways towards a new interior in your Overland.

I'm of the "Keep it until the wheels fall off, then weld them back on and keep going" mentality. I don't like buying new, but I also hate buying someone else's problem. It's possible someone just keeps cars while they are under warranty and sells them on, which can result in a good deal. I'm always warry of buying someone else's build.

My truck was basically stock with some added lights and an dealer installed winch. Even something as simple as wiring lights to the Aux pigtails was a shitshow of horrible decisions. Gobs of messy solder, wires twisted together and wrapped in a baseball sized wad of electrical tape rather than using proper waterproof connectors.

A coworker just bought a JL that looked sweet, lift, wheels tires, lights, front axle swap to a Dana 44, some overlanding stuff bolted on and into the back. He had it one day before it threw a code and went into limp mode. He got the clutch recall done and it's still in limp mode three weeks later, the dealer and the specialty Jeep shop can't figure it out.

If any kind of serious work as been done on the Jeep you are thinking about, I'd reconsider. It's always easier and better to have a known history.

$25K wouldn't give me a new engine/ Rubicon drivetrain (Jeep already replaced the top end and both cams under warranty at 45K miles) and a new interior and new paint (mine was bubbling and flaking) and a hard top (mine was a soft top) and LED package (had halogens) and new tires (My Kenda Klevers 35s were bald and needed replacement) and front + rear lockers (Overland) and regearing, etc.

I now owe $25K on a vehicle thats worth $40K+ KBB.

Plus, I've wanted a Rubicon since I was a kid and now I have one.

I came out ahead on this deal.

Thanks for making me feel old! Rubi's didn't exist when I was a kid. I was drooling on Daisy Duke and her CJ-7

Ohhhh... I remember watching the reruns.

My first Jeep was a 73 CJ5... I always loved those gold wheels and eagle stickers on the hood but Daisy Duke on the hood is 1000x better!

Thanks for asking, it is paid off. Does that change your thoughts?

I have found some Diesel Rubicon packages, those are around $40 to 45Kish.
Not to be a nay sayer but the diesel has all its existing situations like the gasses. You aren't gonna gain hardly anything going to a diesel besides everything you buy for it being more expensive. Just build the one you have especially since its paid off.

If we don't believe in Unicorns, what is the point of going on? LOL.
Buy a diesel Rubicon, change out the hood and cowls to the taller Mojave/392 hood and add shocks? If you're just going to build it then the Mojave is of questionable value anyways since your changing the springs and shocks most likely.
