Regarding Bugout vehicles, remember: an EMP will fry most electrical circuits unless they are protected by a faraday cage that's properly grounded. Unless your vehicle is pre-1996 good luck as they have multiple modules that WILL fry and need to be replaced. CDI ignition systems will fry, but good luck converting to a points system on anything in the last 25 years.
I am not convinced the whole EMP doomsday scenario thing would end up being as bad as it is made out to me. CDI ignitions work with at least one ignition coil directly wired to them, and its magnetic field is collapsing multiple times a second as part of its design. Those devices by nature are pretty hardened to EMPs. If you were super worried about it, wrap a 4 pin GM HEI module in some foil tape to short all of its pins together and throw it in the glove box and your pre-ECM car is good for the apocalypse.

If the EMP scenario actually did happen effectively it most certainly would be bad. Just on the subject of roads and travel: we’ve all seen the videos of a vehicle that had a system fail while operating and it usually isn’t good for the normal driver. Now imagine multiple systems failing to different degrees on the million plus drivers on the road all at the same time. It won’t matter if you have an EMP protected vehicle or not. Roads would be so clogged with wreckage you won’t be getting through. If 1 18-wheeler can stop a major road artery imagine what would happen if 10ks of them all malfunction at once. And that’s just the driving and travel aspect. Electricity touches so much of our life now that virtually everything you do relies on it to a point.

As I’ve said, I don’t see it being a highly likely situation but if one of the NoGoodNicks got their schlitz together enough to pull it off it would be a Doom on Dickey kinda day.

I could not care less. Put 1000 cameras in my vehicles.
I don’t care. I don’t drink and drive anyway.

Wait… what if the AI says I have been drinking and disables my vehicle, late at night while stopping for gas in a bad part of town? I guess I do care!

My JT with the manual transmission was purposely chosen because I'll be damned if I drive an automatic. Jeep and 98% of all the other car companies slowly got rid of the manual which is why I was so glad to be able to order one in 22. The government didn't make them get rid of the manuals the consumer did.

The onstar and the vehicle itself already keep track of all my bad driving habits---but I'm with the guys on here who say it's fine "they" collect the data but to use it against me personally gets into 4th amendment issues. And my guess is that if the big bad government enmass actually tries to implement these stupid rules the consumer/voter is going to rise up and shut that shit down. Starting with years long litigation and ending with it being a specific issue for candidates in elections.

So I'm going to continue to happily drive my Mojave, set up the way I want it, until I die or am unable to drive it. I'm definitely not going to worry about this ever happening in my lifetime.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/federal-surveillance-tech-becomes-mandatory-161321992.html

Found in the JL Forum....Here are a couple blurbs quoted from same:

- Your next car purchase comes with an unwelcome passenger: a federal mandate requiring surveillance technology that monitors your every blink, glance, and head nod.

- Infrared cameras and sensors create a constant biometric assessment of driver alertness and sobriety.

- The tech involves infrared cameras mounted on steering columns or A-pillars, tracking eye movement, pupil dilation, and drowsiness patterns. Unlike the breathalyzer ignition interlocks from DUI convictions, these systems operate passively

- If the AI determines you’re impaired (blood alcohol ≥0.08% or showing fatigue), it can prevent ignition startup or limit vehicle speed.

- The surveillance rollout targets late 2026 to 2027 for all new passenger vehicles.

- While NHTSA’s final rule faced delays beyond the November 2024 deadline, automakers will still get 2-3 years for full implementation once regulations are finalized. Your current vehicle stays surveillance-free, but shopping for a 2027 model means accepting this digital copilot.

- The privacy implications extend beyond federal oversight. While the law doesn’t mandate external data sharing, manufacturers could potentially upload biometric data to corporate servers, raising concerns about sharing with insurance companies to adjust your premiums based on driving behavior.

- The federal government promises this surveillance saves 9,000-10,000 lives annually. Whether that justifies your car becoming a mobile panopticon depends on how much vehicle autonomy you’re willing to trade for theoretical safety gains.
If they even seen where I drive on a daily basis the thing would be constantly shut down. Some times my eye dilate while I am full bore up a big steep grade with 4 rooster tails flying off the tires. Screw the car industry .

What if someone driving around me forgot to tighten their lug nuts all the way and their wheel falls off and I run it over and go airborne off the edge of a cliff into the Grand Canyon. I guess I won’t drive anymore!

I read this today and thought so many on the forum will be disappointed if they do not force the vehicle operator scanning stuff on everyone.

There was video today of a guy that fell asleep in the Taco bell drive through the police were called to wake him. Remember when fast food employees were conscientious enough to wake people who fall asleep in the drive through themselves what has happened to peoples work ethics.
