I used to be a big, "find the cheapest gas guy". I would go to your local convenience store (Wawa or 7-11) or use my points and get grocery store gas. My brother told me that every 4th fill up I should use "name" brand gas (Shell or Exxon) to prevent gunk build up in the engine and fuel system. So, I started going to Exxon every 4th fill up and I noticed my gas mileage went up. I would get 18 mpg with cheap gas, just driving and not focused on driving to conserve fuel. After going to Exxon every 4th fill up, my gas mileage went up to 19. So, I started going every fill up and I am now up to 20 mpg.
I am just curious if anyone has experimented with this or if anyone wants to do this experiment. Does name brand gas get you better gas mileage than off brand gas? I have a Sport with 18" Overland Wheels, Automatic, Drive back roads and highway on a daily basis. I am not in stop and go traffic other than stop lights. I will cruise between 65 and 75 mpg. I am trying to give as much info as possible since a lot of things go into gas mileage.
