I’ve been following this company on uTube regarding his tuning and today he mentions CFT possible manufacturing better intercooler a and oil coolers for the Gen 3 ecodiesel. It’s mentioned around the 34 minute mark of the video. Kind of a long rant.

Looks like plenty of room here for another cooler if you don’t want a winch.

For those curious.. I was looking at mine yesterday, and noticed it came with a 940w fan. I am 99% sure that previous models had a ~850w on the trailering package, and ~640w on a standard diesel/gas.

What size fan do some that are having problems have?
I think I am the one with the most complaints and conditions with the overheating and my fan is the 940W too. I don't think the fan really comes into play when traveling at 50+mph?

Back in early July I linked to a replacement, larger radiator. Has anyone investigated this?

A larger (thicker) radiator would be the best solution if it worked.

I agree a thicker radiator would do wonders. Unfortunately that will not be a simple feat. The packaging is extremely tight. The the trans, turbo intercooler, and AC, are rigid mounted lines and are all real close to the radiator. This isn't like putting your radiator in a '80s Jeep.

If the fan is running at highway speed to assist in cooling, and the size is enough to dramatically counter the inbound air, then a big area of low speed air is being created in/around the heat exchangers. Further strain, and thus heat, are also being generated as the fan motor struggles to overcome the air being pushed at it. Think of taking two box fans, and facing them together.

Now, there is also the idea that because of how dense the surface area is on these exchangers, it would matter little to have airflow on either side, because the exchangers are acting as solid surfaces. The air travels across, losing speed as it travels, and exits the surface once it gets past the edges.

So removing the horns was fun! The bolts are twice as long as they need to be and they hit the radiator when I backed them out. I cut them and removed the pieces. I am still looking for a relocation point for the horns.

I also relocated my light bar to the top of the grill. My hope is that it will trap a bit more air pressure in front of the grill and force it through the radiator. If I get any temperature improvements I will follow up numbers.

Yep, when I looked under mine, the first thought that came to my mind was "when one of those coolers needs to be replaced one day, that job is going to SUCK."
