Some thoughts:

- I live in CA but I custom ordered so this wouldn't have changed anything on my purchase. In fact, my custom order was even made out of state, so double wammy.

- If Stellantis is required to sell an increasing amount of electric vehicles in carb states like CA, I can understand why they might be doing this (so that they don't have to electrify other models in their lineup).

- I worry this will reinforce the "EV Agenda" in carb states. Even though you can still custom order this will make more people choose the electric version if they want something off the lot, further fueling statistics showing how many people are "choosing" EVs over ICE vehicles.

Thanks. My questions was more along the lines of will these states impose higher registration and taxes for ICE vehicles once they stop selling in the state.
No doubt California will charge more as a penalty for driving an ICE vehicle and to off set the budget for electric vehicles not paying gas tax. As is I Pay $750 a year in California and I’m not bragging about it.

This ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS is getting old… Do you think you’re the old school mom dictating to 2nd graders…

GROW UP! We are adults here and I’m sure we are capable of having a discussion even if we don’t all agree with each other…..
This is never true. If you want discussions of reasonable length - there needs a “no politics” rule.

I guess if citizens in those states are ok with having less choice, they can have fun with it. Or move to a state that allows more choice...
NO DON'T LET THEM MOVE !!! Let them fix there own state. To many have moved to other states already and messing them up now!!

I don't think Stellysler is making the smartest move here, but that shouldn't surprise anyone who's followed the company since Iacocca retired the first time in 1992.

I ordered mine from a different state. There were two reasons for this:
1. Dealers NEVER have what I want.
2. I saved 12K.
So waiting for what I want, and even going 1000 miles away, isn't a problem for me.

The problem isn't that it's just carb states, the carb states force thier will by economy of scale on all the other states. LA County has more people than 40 states have, so when calif says no, that cuts so deep in the market is isn't economical to make both, they just force one on the other

I agree completely, but a lot of buyers tend to buy what's available at their local dealers. The real problem I see is it's going to hurt the dealers in the CARB states if they aren't able to provide what buyers want. Do you want to have to go out of state to get warranty work if the dealers near you can't survive? Maybe this won't happen (hopefully not)... but it seems like a real possibility.

Hopefully if it starts seriously impacting the dealers, Stellantis will change the policy.

I mean, as the dealership model is outdated and inefficient maybe this will bring about the change needed to ditch the dealer, do a direct to consumer ordering model, and allow the implementation of dedicated service centers.

Also if folks are buying what's available then what they'll be buying is going to be the PHEV models or ordering to get a gas-only.

This needs to happen. California has the worst dealer networks of all brands in the world. The service centers cant keep trained techs because of the high cost of living and refusal to pay to accommodate a middle class worker living here.

My last 3 vehicle purchases were out of state. saved 10-15k each.

Except the PHEV models are significantly more expensive than the already expensive gas models, so people will go out of state for them if they want them immediately - or buy something else (Bronco?). As for eliminating the traditional dealership, this ABSOLUTELY needs to happen - and I believe it will... but it's going to take time to roll back all of the various state laws that are currently in place to protect the current dealership model. VW and Ford (others?) have already been making moves toward the direct sales model (like Tesla). Personally, I CAN'T WAIT for this to happen. No more HOURS of the same old B.S. sales tactics/games at the dealership that they've been putting us through for DECADES... no more ridiculous markups over MSRP on desirable models, etc. Just place your order, pay the same price that everyone else pays, and it shows up at your house in a few days/weeks. It's coming, but it's going to take time (years).

As a Masshole I see this in New Hampshire and Maine..... Take this to the extreme and you have Austin Texas. The people who voted for all these parks and services now can no longer afford to live there!
