Tried a Fluid Extractor to change the oil in my Glad. Jury is still out.

Gave it a try and it definitely sucked but it left about a 1/2 cup of oil in the pan. Not a negative in my opinion, I do oil changes more often than most. The big thumbs down on this particular extractor is it leaks at the inlet/outlet fitting when I tried to dispense the used oil into a recycle container. I ended up taking the extractor O'Reillys.

Who else has used an extractor on you 3.6 engine? Share your experiences.

The Valvonline quick change oil and jeep dealer do the same when they change oil. They use on oil extractor. But does it really do any better than just pulling the drain plug?
It just made it so I had to, eventually, replace the plug when It seized itself in the pan and I stripped off the wrenching flats trying to remove it…….not worth the cost, for me.
JMHO……

Biggest tip is to drive it around the block a couple times from cold and set it up while idling, then shut down and immediately start sucking. That will churn up what is in the pan so you aren't leaving a bunch of crap in the bottom of the pan.

I do the same thing but with a drain valve.

Those Mitvac stand up extractors and their clones have always been a mixed bag. Most work fine but I would say a noticeable good portion of them have the leak issues you mentioned and basically are a paperweight when they do leak.

I have played with a cheapie Amazon special fluid extractor electric motor pump the last few fluid changes and been satisfied with it. Like anything though with fluid extraction, the hose fitment has to be solid.

I’ll second the Fumoto valve, makes oil change day much easier.

My opinion is that extractors are for boats. If you want easy oil changes, a Fumoto valve is your best friend.

I've only used the extractors for transmission services. Oil changes are to easy and not worth the effort with an extractor in my experience

What can I say, I'm getting old. Hard to get down and get up lately.
I hear that for sure. Great reason to do it from the top. Creepers getting stuck on crappy asphalt is less than fun.

Retired. Beach bum.
I have only owned my latest Jeep, a 2024 Gladiator Sport S, I bought new in July, so far I have just 3,600 miles of all types of driving, including light off road a beach fun. The oil monitoring system tells me I have 62% oil life left, but I’ve never followed one of those for over 20 years when I had a 2002 ML320, that came with free oil changes on the front 4 visits. I heavily questioned the dealer about 10-12k oil changes, but they said that’s what MB recommends for warranty sake? NO I have since changed my oil at no later than 50% in regular commuting. But 40% when towing. Just theee months after the warranty expired I had serious engine wear issues and was left on my own, so we traded that in for an Avalanche and never looked at Mercedes again! Now my first two oil changes come with the Gladiator and I plan on using full synthetic, the book says 5w20, but I live in Florida? Should I use 5w20 or ? But I plan on changing no longer that 50%! What is wrong with just dropping the oil out of the drain plug?

Unless they have changed it for 2024, the book says to use Synthetic 0W20 and go a maximum of 12 months or 10k miles between oil changes.

With my first Gladiator, I followed the oil life monitor. The first change was done at 6k miles. It was quiet and had no issues at 57k miles when I traded it in.

With my second Gladiator, the first change was done at 3k miles. I plan to do them every 5k miles. So far, at almost 8k miles, the engine is quiet with no issues.
