@bhbdvm and @Flying J I have no first hand experience with the Kodiak tents as I have been solidly entrenched in the Springbar tents, which I believe were first invented and produced by Jack Kirkham in Salt Lake City back in the 60's. I grew up as a kid with these tents and the one which I just replaced saw heavy use for 3+ decades (some quite hard abuse including lots of winter mountaineering base camp misery). While I see that these originals are a bit more expensive than the Kodiaks, I just could not see myself moving away from a brand I have had such super high quality and service with. This tent which I just retired was one that I purchased just out of college as a replacement for the small 2 man version I used all through childhood. In my laziness at the time, I neglected to properly dry that tent and it molded severely. It was 20+ years old already. I took it to Kirkhams to see if there was anything they could do but I ruined that tent. Regardless, Kirkhams gave me 50% off on the tent I just retired. Note also that I had blown our the door zipper about 8 or so years prior and they replaced that for just under $25.

Now, I could easily have patched the holes and replaced the zipper in my current 3+ man tent but I have a 2 week solo elk/deer/pronghorn hunting trip starting on the 14th of Oct and so was left in the position of replacement as there was no way I could get it shipped, repaired, and shipped back in time for this next adventure. Secondarily, earlier this summer I went camping in the same mountains and we had a torrential downpour all night. I ended up cooking in the tent which was just a bit too small for this foot print of tent. Thus I decided at the time that when the time came to replace my current rig I would jump up in size to a 6 man to facilitate the ability to really hang out and do what ever was needed in that larger space. Now, I have to realize there is no way I am going to train a super spastic 8 year old Golden Retarded not to run through the damn door so I will have to take other precautions with that beast.

The Jail Breaker...Doing what she does best. Begging for deer meet and schooling her 7 month old brother... When she blew the door off it was about 2am and I believe she heard a camp robber squirrel and out she charged...

Looks like Kodiak tents maybe a knock off of a Springbar tent.
When I need to replace mine I'll check out Springbar

Purchased the sport s model last Tuesday, purchased tires taken off a gladiator rubicon, had front windows tint matched, and threw on the windshield banner to support a local shop!

Yes you’re right. I did some playing around at a regular one by would work but only within the grooves channels of the bed. So if sitting on the lowest points it’s perfect but a 2x8 would likely be too high because of the raise channels in the bed. I’m going to make some ‘teeth’ on my board to solve the problem.

So yesterday i started rotating my tires & then decided to swap in Rubicon springs I’ve had for awhile now $250 for the whole suspension. Anyway i have the Alloy USA 1 1/2” level kit + Fox front 2.0 shocks for 0-2” lift. And running factory Rubicon Fox rear. So with steel stubby bumper & winch up front i lost 1/2” . So adding new springs & factory spring isolators on front to give me 1/2” more then 3/4” spacer for rear springs. I probably gained a little over an inch all around. Washed & Waxed and I’m happy with results.

Had it about a month. Love this thing! Put on some XD Addict wheels. Kept the stock tires, figure I'll get something bigger when these wear down some. Added the N-Fab Epyx nerf bars, stripes & colored badges. I'm trying to be the responsible one and not go crazy adding everything I want right now. This thing's like a Harley.....they just sold you the habit.

Looks like my 10x10 Kodiak, I've been to Montana, Idaho, Yellowstone, Northern Michigan and Airplane camping at Oshkosh for many years. Best tent ever!
I've been thinking of a roof top tent or a small teardrop trailer for camping. Thinking about cost, storage and maintenance, I keep realizing the that the Kodiak is the best way to go for me.
