genesis dual battery system.

I cannot say this is a mod I would ‘never’ do again because it does have some awesome applications. However, now that I know about the fuse 42 trick, I might have gone that route instead. Seeing as I ended up adding a 115ah AGM battery in the bed because the underhood aux 64ah battery alone was not sufficient. However the caveat is at that time I did not know the realization of several week long trips would actually be occurring this summer. The main thing I dislike about the genesis system is how much space it takes underhood. But that is unavoidable. And seeing as how I have a additional battery in the bed, my winch will have to be connected to the main battery and turn off the battery combiner when winching so power is not pulled from the in bed battery as it is fused at 100a and only using a 4ga wire. Pulling fuse 42, and putting a 150ah AGM in the bed for camping stuff would have been a simpler and cheaper method. But for 1-2 night trips (my original intent) the genesis 64ah aux battery would have been plenty sufficient.
This thread is good stuff. I have been eyeballing the gen3 but maybe will hold back look at some other solutions.

What is the Fuse 42 trick?

1st generation AEV RX bumper. That one has to be assembled in place which takes hours. Things don’t line up and it has to be modified in order to be able to get the skid off without partial disassembly of the bumper. My concern is that removing it for repairs also takes hours. This is in contrast to most stubby bumpers or the stock bumper which take minutes to remove. The 2nd generation was redesigned to be less stupid. It was released right after I bought mine, of course.

For me it was my Goodyear Territory MT tires. They are light, have amazing siping, and look good. The big regret though is that they are SOOO soft. Unbelievable traction, but I have 2,500miles on them and there is visible wear. They also make a ton of growl when cornering on the highway. Next time I will go back to my tired and true BFG's.

If I was doing it again there are a number of things I would do different. For a variety of reasons.

The only mod that I felt was completely a waste though was the steer smarts sector shaft brace. It was fine at first, but it didnt even make it 10K miles before the bearing seized and it just started squeaking and grinding. I replaced the bearing with one from a member that had taken theirs off, and its already squeaking again. Perhaps its just florida wheeling where there is water and sand everywhere, but giant waste of money.

Second mod I regret is the steer smarts track bar. This track bar is great in every way but the adjuster sleeve bolt size. If i had a non fox ATS it might be ok, but with the fox ATS there just isnt room for it along with beefy rpm steering tie rod and draglink.

I had a friend install the 2nd generation, after having the first generation (he went from stubby to full width) he said its still stupid.

American Adventure Labs inner fender liners. They suck. They don’t fit correctly. The passenger side, which doesn’t require anything being relocated on the diesel, was actually the side that wouldn’t go on without extensive modifications. They’re supposed to be quick disconnect but they’re a pain to get on and off regardless. But mainly they bind and pop and clunk and rattle off road. I’ve had to remove them twice to reshape them to save my sanity. I’m probably going to put rubberized edging material around them to mitigate this further. They mostly just look cool.

I would never do a spacer lift mod. Especially if one is ever expecting to do a proper full suspension lift with coil springs, arms and correct shocks. Just a waste of time for a look and is double the work taking it back out to do what should have been done right in the first place.

I have 2 sets of mods that I have regrets with/would have gone a different direction.

1.) M.O.R.E Skid plates + Next Venture Diff Skids. While the skid plates are nice to have, and on one occasion did their job and saved me from a massive repair bill, I have one MAJOR regret. I bought the steel ones, and they're just too god damn heavy! Major PITA to install, and between them and the steel bumpers (should have gone aluminum) plus everything else I've added over a thousand pounds to the truck! They're really awkward to install by yourself, I had to remove my oil skid plate for some warranty work over two months ago, and I haven't bothered to put it back on yet.

I really just wish I had gone aluminum all the way around, and maybe skipped on the belly skids + diff skids.

2.) Rugged Ridge Hi-Mount Snorkel. A whole lot of inconvenience for not much benefit for what I do. It makes it a pain to clean the windshield, I can't run the truck through brush style washes without taking it off before hand, and it makes a huge blind spot at that corner of the windshield, so I have to be really careful with anything on that side, it easily can hide a whole person.

But I like the look too much so I live with it, although I really have no intention of doing water crossings.

Hopefully the wear slows down for you.

I've had excellent wear with my last 5-6 sets of Goodyears. I have about 30k on Goodyear Ultraterrains on my Gladiator and they are showing little wear.

I try to avoid mods that I will possibly regret. I bought some rear lower CAs to correct the rear pinion angle after my 2 inch lift. Really didn't need to do that. But the rear lower CAs won't adjust shorter to do that so now I have to do the uppers.
I am constantly teasing myself with 37s but I am torn with all the possible mods, gears, more lift, reprogram, needed to do them right so I just don't do them.

I feel the “weight” of what you are saying. All that armor adds up quick. I have been looking at what I can remove from the JT to bring weight down. On the docket to tear out all the spare tire stuff which will bring me down about ten pounds. The towing hitch and gear are possibly going soon. Can always throw it back on when needed.

Ordered Artecs belly skid the a week later they debuted the new and improved system that looks like a snap to remove just what is needed. Got my order updated for the new setup for a 25% price hike. Think I will be happy I did. Best part is it only adds ~10 lbs they say and also gives an inch plus of clearance underneath.

i did not want to hear this. Mine is supoed to get here on friday. do you think 35’s will have enough clearance?? Or am I gonna be in the same situation?
You’ll likely be just fine. It was really close, and only hit when in extremely twisted situations. It didn’t even happen until I started doing trails as difficult as the rubicon.
