Would be much cheaper to wrap in foil. Will add that to my project list!

Do these charge pipes help in any way cooling air temps? Or would wrapping the stock pipes help, etc. If those are dumb question be kind :)

Air temps around 12-130 when oil temps are 250…. That’s not very high. I’ve seen up to 270 but in a cold ambient I can have 100 degree intake temps and oil will be 240+ when it’s 44 degrees outside.

air temps not doing it it’s the turbo heating the oil up.

Where are you taking the intake temps at? Before or after the turbo?

Both…. This was taken during a regen. Note the DPF and SCR temps.

I'm using a Banks iDash gauge. I have it set up for after the turbo inlet. Before and after the turbo exhaust.

I looked at the iDash and opted for an iPhone app that I could configure with multiple views.

Sorry this is monitoring IAT1 on the banks which should be AFTER the intercooler going into the intake manifold. I see as high as 170 on a 100 degree day. Even when it’s at 80-90 IAT on a mid 40s day I saw nearly 250 degree oil temps climbing priest grade toward Yosemite. I’ve done everything short of an external cooler. KN intake with an open filter hood vent removed all the seals and foam under hood and have AFE intercooler pipes. It all helps the engine shed temp once you stop or idle but hasn’t stopped the rampant heat soak.

I had no issues last summer in Utah. Running 85 mph for hours in 100F+ heat. With about 600lbs in the bed.
Funny I derated multiple times on my way to Utah and back. When you say you were running 85 mph, is that on flat ground? Because in my JTRD as soon as the elevation goes up, so does the temps.

@Rusty PW Remind me, have you changed your gearing or something? I have moved the horns and installed the SB hood vents, which now I think was a mistake.

When I hear this type of feed back I go back to either something is broken on my jeep, OR, different parts of the country got different programs and can adapt to changing elevations better.

Running from Denver to Bullfrog at Lake Powell and back on I70 RT 24, RT 95, and Rt 276. The air temp was over 100F the whole time. My temps did go up, but never derated. If I remember right. My water temps was 230F ~ 240F. My oil temps was 230F ~245F. Bone stock JT.

240 coolant temp is pretty damn hot though.

You could put extensions on the hood hinge mounts so the entire rear of the hood is vented lmao

I installed hood scoops from sbfilters on my rubicon. Waiting for summer to see if they help with overheating. But they blow cold air over the exhaust pipes, so should prevent any wires from melting.

diesels run hotter for more efficiency, ie better fuel burn, so it's a balancing act to get good performance and not smoke things....

According to one youtuber he claims air filter flow can have an impact on temps as well. Basically the already small OEM filter that is dirty will quickly drive up EGR temps compared to a fresh filter.

Take it for what it is, as I have now found myself quoting the expertise's of a youtube professor...... which scares me.

at least a filter change is easy and you can test it yourself for a few bucks.
