Wow, that was definitely tested. Lol
We started calling it "Sound the ground alarm", as it makes a horrible screeching sound when it slides down that sandstone. Lol

I actually have not bought one yet. I have a short drop trailer hitch that has worked perfectly. First time I hit it, I was a little alarmed and then realized it saved my bumper and now put it in for each off road excursion I take. Would be nice if it was wider, but it has worked well so far. I also have several hitches so I am not worried about damaging it in any way. My father in law welds his own hitches so they are very thick metal and really over engineered!

I went with number three Warfab Sheridan biggest differences are it is not a step but it also protects your safety chain attachment plate which can get destroyed, and is a solid shackle attachment point. I can not leave things alone and cut mine down a bit to be only 1/4” below chains. Which gives more clearance but on flip side it might allow bumper get hit more as it does not drag as soon …..Jack

This is why I do not have one yet. Yes they protect your hitch but then stick down so low below your hitch that you might not have ever hit except for the fact that now you have 1" less clearance.
Nice job Jack.

What type hitch skid is your choice, why?
I am trying to decide which one would be best to protect the bumper. A step is nice, but the bumper has an area built in that can be used as a step. A simple skid seems like it limits protection.

#1. Simple Skid

#2. Step Skid/Simple Skid

#3. Skid Plate with integrated step

Your number three is the warfab Sheridan short. It’s built like a tone of bricks. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I've got a warfab as well. I like the fact I can attach a shackle to it.

And it’s got soft edges for soft shackles. I’ve tested it for real many times.

I copied this idea for one on mine. I plugged the hole where the ball goes also and it turned out nice for a cheap solution. Mine took some good hits last time out and held up great. A little paint and it looked good again. If you don’t have a welder you could possibly find a local fab shop that may cut and weld it up fairly cheap.

I bought the Rock Slide Engineering slider. They showed off their goods for the Gladiator at SEMA and I liked how rugged the slider was. I especially like that it’s designed as a step up to the bed. Here’s a short vid of their stuff.

I went with the AJK Hitch Skid. Ran trails every day at EJS this year and banged the hell outta it quite a few times (dropping off of ledges) without any damage.

AJK makes these for Warfab. Same one. And yes, does an amazing job.

Here's what I have. It's a skid plate, wheel chock, recovery point, and a step. I've been bashing it since I bought my JT in July 2019. Its been dropped off ledges, banged into rock walls from behind, and drug over so many rocks, with no damage other than it's powder coat. Not only does it protect the safety chain eyes, but it comes right up to the spare tire providing some protection for it.
