Spotted these four JTs climbing the road to the Johnson tunnel, including a Rubicon pulling a cargo trailer. The tunnel is at the top of a very steep climb, ending up at over 11,000 feet. How do I know they were testing? The Michigan manufacturer plate for starters, then the writing on the driver door: "Automotive Test Services DOT 2270521". The DOT number comes back with the following:"

FCA US LLC
DBA: AUTOMOTIVE TEST SERVICES
  • U.S. DOT#: 2270521
  • Address: 800 CHRYSLER DRIVE
    AUBURN HILLS, MI 48326
  • Number of Vehicles: 10
  • Number of Drivers: 100
  • Number of Inspections: 4
So very obvious, no wrapping, no disquises. But why? Surely they have done all the high altitude testing and trailer towing testing before now. Again, the pass they were crossing is just over 11,000 feet so I get the idea. But why now? Apols for marginal photos but still thought it interesting. Personally I drive a '20 JLU so not sure if there was anything remarkable in the appearance of these trucks.

Nothing stands out to me about the black or granite ones, but the red one is a Euro model, or at least has a Euro rear end (tail lights, no trailer plugs, rear fog lights, and something is up with those rear row hooks). It also strangely has mudflaps on only the passenger (right) side.

Apparently the red one is a Willys? Sticker on the rh side of the tailgate

Seen them on Hells Revenge a few days ago. I tried to talk to one of the drivers but he wasn’t interested in talking or giving me any info on what they were testing.

I'd assume it's a new power train test.

Might not even be for the US market. Also they could be testing something that is years away not even for the same platform.

My gut would say 4xe, Hemi, and or i6 turbo.

What's that device and wire coming from the rear door and mounted to the bed?

I don't think its a 392 or 4XE.

-Lack of dual exhaust, hood ventilation, wheels.

-I dont think they can fit all of the electric components in the cab.
