Have you driven one?
Yes, Tesla’s, Rivian’s and a 4XE…. I drive 500+ miles a day and EV’s aren’t cost effective.

If those three were the ones I’d driven I might not like them either. 😆 But yes, 500 per day doesn’t make it work well. PHEV would work great though.

I've been hearing Rivian is going broke for 5 years.
The government gave them a whopping $6.6 billion loan about a year ago, so it's rather shocking they are struggling. I heard today that their stock is dropping and they are losing investors. There's a lot of skepticism and apparently Rivian isn't meeting their goals.

Again, been hearing this narrative for five years.

Steadily supplying them with parts and quoting new business though.

Their cash burn rate is astonishing.

Plus, Rivian's declining deliveries are so far below expectations that investors are now questioning their solvency. They just laid off 600 workers a few months ago. They made news again today because their shares were plunging.

Yeah, it's sad to see the US taxpayers losing money, yet again.

Nah, the #1 reason - Rebates
Take away the rebates and make people pay the actual cost, and it's no longer popular.
What a lot of people don't realize is that you could apply the rebate to purchases as well as leases. So that $7500 immediately became your down payment on a lease. Jeep was running 24 month leases, so a cap reduction of $7500 for only 24 months made a huge difference.

Removing the rebates essentially killed leasing for EVs.

Sure will be interesting to see what happens if/when the new crop of democrats get back in charge, and undoes all the Trump executive orders dealing with energy, EV requirements.

VW is building a Scout Motors EV plant less the 2 miles from me. Not slated to produce the first car unit later this year or next. Millions or billions of tax money going to improve/reroute local infrastructure to accommodate. Sure is f'ing up the place (IMO). I envision the same switcheroo coming.

our has functioned as intended and saved my wife a lot of trips to the gas pump. A couple of years ago she went 500 miles in about 3 months and it took just under 10 gallons to fill it. That's one fill in months - in 500 miles.
How many trips could it possibly have saved? 1 maybe.

500 miles would take just over a tank of gas in my Gladiator. At current prices that around $70.
