I am looking at replacing my main/aux with the Genisis dual battery system. I have now had my second aux battery crap out. A snow storm and not driving for 1 week - the battery showed signs of being partially drained, the ESS was not active while battery charging. It would charge, couple days later not charged enough. Now it simply says ESS not available, get it serviced. This would be my second aux battery replacement. I have actually been considering dual battery since the service department gave the following explanation of why the first one died - there is a water drain hole in the aux battery compartment that drains the water that drips down from the windshield wiper cowling drain into the battery compartment. It got blocked and froze over during a large snow storm - about a foot of snow, stuck around for over a week, and water pooled high enough and likely froze in the aux battery box to short it out. But both batteries were drained, and would not jump start at all. I tried various charging methods from a higher powered charger to a trickle charger, and jumping it. Even the tow company could not get it to start. Sounds like a bad design to me to purposely direct water into a battery box. I have the feeling the same thing happened a second time, just not as severely as the first time.

ty.

I havent had any issues, yet. but this is exactly the sort of repair that makes me think Im about to unintentionally create a problem where none exists. But I cant risk the truck dieing with all the towing I do.

Go to Costco or Sam's Club and get a 94R for the main battery. They usually have the best price and provide a three year warranty. If you can't find a AUX14 battery at one of the local auto parts stores, the AUX12 battery from Amazon is a substitute with a lower capacity (155 vs. 200cca).

The newest battery charger I have has a Power Supply mode to keep the electronics alive while changing batteries.
I looked up 94R on the sams club website and there were a lot of options. would ya mind grabbing me a link if you know specifically which one?

I'm guessing that this isn't a warrantied item, either battery, even before the 36 month period. What is the cost of buying new batteries, and having them replaced?

It is a warrantied item. But there are a LOT of people either outside the 36 months or the 36,000 miles.
If replaced at a dealership, I think I've seen guys say $800-$900. AND you get the same shitty, overpriced batteries.

I'm considering going up a battery group and doing the jumper and losing the motorcycle battery.

im way outside my warranty period, and my extended warranty doesn't cover durable parts like batteries and brake components, and so on. So this one is on me.

My question is will I loose my radio settings and/or PCM settings with BOTH batteries disconnected?
When I did my aux battery delete mod a few weeks back and had both batteries disconnected for a couple of hours, I did not loose my radio settings (8.4) like the station presets but the radio did a default bootup for a base configuration that my backup camera at first did not work until I did a second deep sleep power off (like 2hrs) and a second cold bootup of the radio went back to everything I had set previously and backup camera worked.

As to the PCM, I did not loose any settings I had done previously with JSCAN but the adaptive learning did seem to reset on the transmission.

the adaptive learning would be unpleasant to reset after 70k miles haha. Im a huge fan of 20-22mpg all the time and dont care to go back to scratch. ill probably end up trying the battery tender and see if I can do that without destroying the gladi

Regularly the power would drop to 3.6- 3.8 while sitting at a light. But it would jump to 4.2 - 4.6 while driving.

After this last trip, while driving in to work this morning and not towing, I decided to take a look at the battery. While driving, with no trailer attached, The battery stayed at a constant 3.4.
That really doesn't give any information at all. One has to know what 4.2 means, or what 3.8 means.

Will not replacing the aux cause problems with the main?
No, not unless it's bad.

but im more concerned with making sure it lasts another 70k miles than the cost associated.
Miles mean nothing to a battery - you could have 200,000 and it wouldn't matter.
I'd be more concerned if you said you had 10,000 on a 2 or 3 year old vehicle.

and water pooled high enough and likely froze in the aux battery box to short it out.
Water was over the top of the battery, actually over both battery posts? That's the only way it would "short". Water would have to contact both posts at the same time.
I question their explanation............

Batteries are covered under the 3 year warranty. I've had batteries replaced on a Jeep that was about 6 weeks from the end of the warranty.

NAPA batteries are excellent! I've had great luck with NAPA, they are made in usa by a respected manufacturer.

I'm at over 26,000 miles, 31 months and both batteries work and are capable of being fully charged.
The issue is these trucks don't fully charge the batteries unless you drive it on the highway for several hours, and don't let it sit for more than a few days at a time.

My in dash meter only shows volts…so 4.2v and 3.8v. Does yours have a different reading?

It was floating between 3.9v and 4.0v the entire ride home tonight.

Also glad you have had good experiences with NAPA. I was happy to see they had both i needed, and at one site for me to pick up easily.

The confusion is caused by the missing digit. The readings should be 14.2 and 13.8, not 4.2 and 3.8.

I've always had good luck with NAPA batteries. Lately, I go to Sam's Club because they are closer (1 mile) and usually less expensive, but they don't carry the AUX14 battery.

Better take a picture… seems like you are missing a preceding ’1’.
