Depends who you ask
One thing think we should be thinking and it may have appeared already..... Looking for value estimates from any and multiple dealers is not the best place to seek tru numbers.

A practice I use when buying and selling used is comparing identical vehicles on 3 big estimation sites, NADA, Edmunds and (an average of identical featured cars/miles) from Cars.com or CarGarus. Average the 3 together and you get a pretty good idea of what's going on.

Dealer is the last person I look to for a value number.
And now back to our regular scheduled program. This thread was about Gladiator values. Someone brought up gun control. But not in a political way apparently then someone rebutted that but that was political I don't know I didn't see the posts that were removed. Then someone asked about driving the speed limit and woo boy that opened a shit storm.
Now here we go let's see if this can get back on topic! Vehicle values go down some more than others. The best historical way to determine what a future value of your vehicle is going to be is to look at manufacturers lease residual values. If you plan on keeping a vehicle a long time it probably doesn't matter. I read an article today about electric cars. Guess what? NO ONE wants to buy a used electric car because there is no govt incentives.
Gladiator values are down no biggy I didn't buy mine to sell it in a couple years anyway.

I don't worry about vehicle values. They are a money pit, not an investment. I purchased mine with the intent to keep it for a very long time. The one I traded in I had for thirteen years. I bought a used electric car, in 2015. It was a lease return. It still runs great, and needs very little maintenance. The amount it's driven has dropped drastically since the purchase of the Gladiator. It would cost too much to replace, so I'll just keep it until it quits working.

Now I know why my 2022 JT with 8,000 miles that I bought in 2021 is worth practically nothing!! I paid $54K and dumped over $7K into it like a sucker! Now the most I can get towards a trade in is $33K. Something needs to change! Trucks full size or JT’s should NOT cost this much!

Do what I do with Jeeps. Buy it. Build it. Keep it. And enjoy making memories in it for many, many years with your kds and loved ones. Then it will become PRICELESS!

I don't get this "85th percentile" stuff at all. Totally bogus the way I read it. It sounds like they measure the speeds of cars on a specific road and calculate the speed where 85% of the cars are going that speed or slower. They then set that road's limit based on that. But if the road has a posted limit already, that skews the speeds downward. Most won't go more than 7mph over the already posted limit knowing they are risking a ticket. And there are standards for roads that are not posted (like we all know unposted residential neighborhoods are 25mph) so even unposted roads have a known limit already. They would have to conduct their studies on roads that are posted with signs that say "this road has no speed limit" for their results to be valid. Well, actually, that particular wording might invite speeding, but something like that. Alternatively, they would have to do the study, post a limit, do the study again, post a new limit, and so on until it settled out.

A Jeep is a pretty unique vehicle if you buy what I consider the original style like the Gladiator and Wranglers. For years I have wanted one but just couldn't justify the cost of them compared to what you could get in other vehicles. It has removable top panels, removable doors, a robust 4-wheel drive system, and a look you can't recreate. It is a great winter vehicle and an awesome summer vehicle. Living in upstate NY it is about as versatile as you can get for our everchanging weather in the Northeast. I just never thought I would enjoy driving one as an everyday driver and much preferred a full-size pickup.

I looked at a Jeep purchase the same way as I looked at purchasing something like an expensive watch or a Boat. No one really NEEDS an expensive watch or a boat... (unless you make your living using one), you want an expensive watch or a boat. A Jeep kind of fits in the same way. No one really NEEDS a Jeep...you want one! It could very well be considered a toy like a boat, jet ski, or ATV.

I finally decided to say the hell with it and bought myself the Jeep Gladiator as a toy when they had these 15% off discounts. I have a full-size GMC Denali 1/2 ton pickup with a Diesel engine and supercruise and really like it. However, since buying the Jeep I have put 500 miles on the GMC and 3000 miles on the Gladiator!

I was very wrong about using it as an everyday driver and find myself choosing it over the full-size truck.

I love the size of it when tooling around town and the ability to go anywhere with it. I take it places I would never take the GMC. I just enjoy the basicness of it and the way it drives. I could very easily live with it as my daily driver.

I think a lot of the cost of these is in stuff you don't see. I am sure the robust 4-wheel drive system is sturdier than what they put in a Subaru. Skid plates probably are not cheap. Heavier duty axles and suspension components probably cost more. A true frame vehicle and not a unibody is more expensive I believe also. I am not a Jeep expert so I may be all wrong on this but since owning one I don't think they are as overpriced as I originally thought. I still think you pay for that Jeep badge but since owning it I don't feel as strongly on this.

As for resale value, all the discounting going on right now on them affects that. You really can't compare the offer you get against the window sticker you need to compare it to what you can buy a new one for right at that moment. On the hybrid E Jeeps, the $7500 tax credit decimates the offers you'll get on those at trade.

So all in all I still feel you can buy a much more optioned-out vehicle like a Subaru for way less but can you take the roof off? Can you take the doors off? Can you lock in the front and rear axles and disconnect the sway bar? Can you put 37" tires on it and a winch?

In the end it's a Jeep and it's really a one-of-a-kind vehicle and you pay a little extra for that and take a bit of a hit on resale value.

I feel bad about whoever traded in my 2022 Gladiator Rubicon with 12K miles. The window sticker in the glove box said $59K and that doesn't count the mods: full bed liner, 3 inch lift, 35s...

I paid $39,495 and I know the dealership still made a good profit.

Buy a depreciating asset with the intention of selling it in the near future, and be unhappy with the outcome. Hmmmmmm. Buy used next time and you can let the original owner take the biggest hit. BUT if you’re financing the used rate will suck. Anyways, hard lesson to learn.

I'll probably sell or trade mine in when the 540HP turbo 6 hits. Probably 2 more years. It will probably have 20K miles on it. I'll probably be good to get 20-25K for it. then buy a new one for 70 plus 20 K in mods. For a living I am an investment councilor ,,,, LOL.

It's all Jeep's fault. They overproduced these in 2022 and again in 2023 causing these massive discounts. I have to believe they are better off backing away from this intentional overproduction to something more realistic and then not deep discounting then anymore. What they are doing right now is screwing themselves and screwing their current customers by driving down current and used values more than they should be. It's simple economics - supply and demand. Are they too dumb to figure this out?

It’s very simple economics. Stellantis got greedy during Covid and now they are paying the price. Ford and Chevy both had price increases, but they were scheduled and they let customers know when they were going to kick in. Stellantis on the other hand, took it to a whole new level. Price increase after price increase with no warning. I actually tried to order a Ram truck. I made the deal and signed the paperwork. A few hours later, I got a call from the dealership letting me know that the truck went up another $1600 from 12:00 when I made the deal til 6:00 when they tried to put the order in the system. Unscrupulous corporate greed. They made record amounts of profits by screwing their loyal customers. As far as I’m concerned, they are getting what they deserve.
