Now I know why my 2022 JT with 8,000 miles that I bought in 2021 is worth practically nothing!! I paid $54K and dumped over $7K into it like a sucker! Now the most I can get towards a trade in is $33K. Something needs to change! Trucks full size or JT’s should NOT cost this much!

It's all in the timing, and now isn't a good time. Several months ago I traded in my 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (nearly seven years old) and got a 2022 loaded gas GC Trailhawk with 11,500 miles for $25k.

Just got a 2023 Sport Max Town with S package and Premium soft top, 42K. Built it with dealer, submitted factory order and watch a 10 day build and 15 day delivery.

Part of the problem is buying off the lots with all the BS dealers overload them with, IMHO. 1/2 the people who buy these and the JLs are buying luxury amenities, not Jeeps.

These JTs, the F150 and even the Silverados can be had affordably if you are willing to look wide or factory order your own and cut back on some of the luxury car amenities.

Also, almost all vehicles in the past 20 years or so have been engineered to last 200,000+ miles with minimal maintenance. In the 70s-80s, 100k was the benchmark. Anything over that was a bonus.

Growing up, we had a '78 Chevy Blazer. In the mid 80s my dad had to put a new engine in it. It couldn't go 7 years without a major repair. My sister had a '97 Expedition that had to have the top end rebuilt when it blew spark plugs (the infamous Ford 5.3? 5.4?). My mom's 2004 Volvo XC70 went 150k with wiper motors and a headlight as the only problem.

But alas, consumerism and "keeping up with the Joneses" tend to make people pony up the dough.
I’ve thought about that quite a bit. I’ll happily replace the engine in my JT when it eventually goes. But it’ll be just one more fun project. I’ll more likely rebuild one in the garage for the fun of it.

Now THAT is an attitude we can all get behind.

I'm already looking for replacement parts for both engine and Transmission. I intend on holding on to mine fir the rest of my life. My grandfather had a 40's MB(military version) and also a 50's model willy truck . Had em for close 70 yrs. He only got rid of them cause he died. That's my intention as well.

Some people are missing what I’m saying. Yeah you paid that back then. Look at what they cost now. It’s insane how much they’ve gone up for pretty much the same exact same thing. Other than a few little cosmetic items.

Most aren't. The marketplace has made it an artform making buyers think they have no power. We're the ones with the f**king money. They're the ones with the liabilities. People just can't say no.

These damn things are like Swiss Army Knives. Once you get it in your pocket, you reach for it instinctively. So, having one in the stable is enough for me. It's paid for and parked in the garage ready to be pulled out and used for when needed. ...and I just picked up a 24 Tundra TRD Off Road for the wife to drive... So, I get it.

There's like 50 of these threads and I don't get the logic. Did you buy av truck you couldn't afford hoping to sell it at no loss in a year? A truck you didn't want to keep? Did you actually think you were going to make money trading it in in a year or 2 because of how wild the used car market got during covid? How are you screwed? Sure maybe you over paid vs what you could pick one up for right now, although if you financed the huge difference in rates is still helping you out. Keep it, use it enjoy it, get your money's worth out of it. My mojave is just over 4k miles right now, and every time I slide it around at 70mph in the desert it's worth every penny. Favorite quote from the wife yesterday was "it's not a video game" in relation to my desert driving. This truck makes it feel like it is for sure.

I am not screwed! Mine is worth more to me every time I drive it! I enjoy thinking about my next mod and I don’t care what it is worth yesterday or tomorrow as I live in the now. And now I am happy. it must be the torque of the diesel!

As far as the long run, we have no idea so just enjoy it. I had no idea when I bought my 1994 7.3 F350 crew cab that people today would walk up to my door and offer me more than I paid for it with cash in hand. But then again, it only has 102,000 miles on it. It rides horrible due due to the standard 1-ton suspension and the clutch takes three men and a baby to push down but it still makes me happy.

All these threads read the same to me:

Oh no, I massively over paid for my gladiator during covid and now that the market is back to pre-covid I greatly regret my purchase!

Now in other news....

I agree completely. At some point it’ll stop being my daily driver, but I’m keeping it forever. I look at it like a boat. Repowering boats is the norm. The hull is still in great shape, so why replace it.

LS swap here we come. Don't know if I can wait for the 3.6 to go though.
