Hey everyone,

This is my first post here , I have a 2021 Gladiator sport with a 5.7 Hemi and ZF 8HP75 from a Ram, 37 and 4.88. I primarily do high-speed dune bashing in the desert with 4HI.
I am now on my second failed transfer case. The Hemi torque in deep sand is cooking the clutch-packs in the Selec-Trac system (4 auto)
• T-Case 1 (MP3022): Failed at 12k km after the swap.
• T-Case 2 (Used MP3022): survived only 17k km.

Am still on the original drive shafts having 97k km total (30k with the Hemi),They are holding.

I want to swap to the MP1622C (Mojave/Command-Trac). I want the 2.72:1 ratio for speed in the dunes and a mechanical lock.

Is the MP1622C enough for the V8 torque and desert driving style , or should I be looking for a Rubicon NV241OR?

What I understand is that

MP1622C should be easier swap (T-Case + Tazer to stop the 4auto function , and shifter but it’s not important)
NV241OR I need also to change the front + aft drive shaft.

I need a once and for all fix. I'm tired of burning clutches.

Thanks,

Go for the 241. It’s a solid transfer case that can take a bit of a beating.

Other options
Option 1: Contact Advanced Adapters and explain what you want and what you do and have them build you an Atlas to fit your needs.

Option 2: Not sure if it can be done on the 3022, but look into rebuilding the clutch pack and while you’re in there see if the Universal gear in there can be switched out for a 241 unit. Some can, some can’t. I forget which is which. If you can do the wrenching it might save you some cash and since you have 2 you can rebuild both and have an extra on the shelf.

Appreciate it ,

I’m leaning toward the 241 at this point , but it seems I need to change the drive shaft too , I am not sure
Atlas sounds great but it’s out of my budget for now,
Rebuilding could work, but I feel like it’ll just fail again under the same conditions.
MP1622C still an option.

I would seriously look at the cost of new/used 241, and what a rebuilt 3022 goes for and review that number against a atlas. I don't think you are going to be that far off.

I would avoid anything with a clutch pack even if you can mess with it using a tazer and stick with a full mechanical transfer case. The 241 case should be fine behind a 5.7 since it's paired up behind a ecodiesel which has similar power output as a 5.7.

I think you were on the right track with the standard tcase. The 4-1 is nearly useless in the sand/ desert. The select trac version is only weaker because of the clutches and that's what's falling. The 241 isn't any stronger it just has 4-1 planetary gears instead of the 2.73. It's not an upgrade in any way aside from deep gears for crawling.

Appreciate it šŸ‘

I agree on avoiding clutch packs. With my use, a full mechanical case makes more sense.
Good to know the 241 can handle the 5.7.

Exactly my thoughts. In the sand 4-Low 4:1 is way too slow, and 4-Auto is just a heat generator that cooks the clutches. I spend 100% of my time in 4-High, so I just need a solid mechanical lock.

the NV241 is the same as MP1622 with is the standard T-case (Command -Trac)
The NV241OR (Rock-Trac) is the Rubicon one 4:1

One technical question Since I'm swapping from the (clutch-based) to (mechanical), do I need to swap the DTCM (Drive Train Control Module), or will the Tazer JL mini do the job and prevent any codes and dashboard lights?

Slap that alternative transfer case in .Go to a local driveshaft shop and explain what you need they can measure it( or just measure yourself ) for you go home rip it out bring shaft in & have them retube it and waa laaa your done and back in business. Way cheaper than buying an atlas transfer case and even another driveshaft.

With the 2017 Ram i had with the select trac had clutches and Ram had the pressure lower on that one vs the last one I had with the same transfercase in my 08 I think I had. The 08 was much better. I added a resistor to the 17 that increased the pressure and then it worked great. You can find more about that on Ram forum. A fellow in Canada came up with the design that just plugged in line electrically. Less than 2 minute install. If you are interested. Myself I have no use for the extra low gears in the Rubicon case which is why I bought command trac

Thanks,
I’d just order an atlas. It’ll be custom built any way you want it, and likely cost less.

Edit: I should have read all the posts before this, but I still say atlas. How much is a new mopar t case? I can’t image it’s cheaper. I’ve had atlas quote me for a different project, and it wasn’t more expensive.

But did you add a RubiCrawler to that quote?

Edit: they don’t make one. Just a straight change out of the transfer case. Whoops!!

That’s a fair point on the driveshaft , Retubing the shafts is definitely a cheaper path than buying custom 1350s .

It wasn’t for a gladiator, but I don’t think it would have mattered. Yes. Full case for under 4k if I remember right. All gear ratios were ala carte.

I’ll check that out and do some research on the Ram forum.

thanks for your input,
Atlas is a bit over my budget right now, but I might still look into it.
