That's what I'm going to do. I don't care about a light on the dash, and when I'm sitting still it's not burning enough fuel to matter.
You would be surprised how much a difference using the start/Stop makes. These things burn a good bit of fuel at idle.

I can see that in city with a lot of traffic lights and intersections. That's just not my driving experience on the everyday. My dad lives 40 miles away and there's 4 lights between us. I can make it two if I want.
That's also my usual drive to work, in his town.

I had this happen to me a couple months ago. But the button but the engine wouldn’t catch to turn on. I had it towed to a nearby dealer and they informed me the batteries in the truck weren’t meant for the vehicle. I asked how could that be since I didn’t change the batteries. I showed them the part numbers for the batteries and got the go around. Cost about $700 on my end. I made a complaint to Fiat-Chrysler and I got my money back

Drive through's also. Sitting in those will hit it as well. I don't live in a big city but I still use mine. I average around 17.6 MPG'S on 37's with stock gears and we had it up to 18.8 last year on the way back from the beach, that's on stock 4.10 gears. My wife drove mine for a week back last year and she turns it off when she drives when I'm not in the jeep and I noticed about a 1.5 drop almost in the MPG'S which doesn't seem like a lot but it's still 1.5 MPG'S. The same week I drove her BMW X5 50i which was averaging around 16.4 with her driving and I turn on the stop/start on hers and got the MPG'S up to 18.2. Could just be driving habits and the BMW has a twin turbo V8

What about hardwiring the lead to a trickle charger to the motorcycle battery that gets plugged in once or twice a week overnight (or to a solar panel), if the vehicle is idle for days/weeks? If the small battery is getting an insufficient charge during use, and is causing drain on the full size, it stands to reason that keeping it topped off may avert total system failure?

I'm not sure how much of it is discharge issues and how much of it is juts trying to do too much with a little cheap battery that has a hard life somewhere it really shouldn't be.
I just changed one of these batteries in my lawn mower and the old one lasted five years.

To the OP, I'm really sorry you got overcharged by the Jeep dealer. But what's done is done. I would politely suggest you simply move on and enjoy your Gladiator.

Not sure if it’s possible to isolate that battery for a digital voltmeter to monitor from in the cab?

Seems like a good idea to get a good emergency jump start Li Po battery and always have it ready. That way you can get home and change the batteries yourself.

Not surprising just some months ago had very similar the smaller battery went bad and took out the whole truck. They changed out both batteries but luckily was still covered by warranty. Am still debating if I want to move it to the Genesis system and do away with that small battery.
I have never heard of the Genesis system but it looks like it is $600 on their website. I had an issue with the small battery while my truck was in storage (I disconnected the negative from the main battery) but the small battery can’t be disconnected so it died. I had it replaced under warranty. Does this Genesis system eliminate the small battery? How does the ESS work if it does? I have my ESS disabled btw. I want to know some more about it because it seems like a good solution to that stupid little battery.

The JL group had a two year head start to despise the dual battery configuration .... everything stated here thus far has been regurgitated many times over. Delete the AUX battery ... run the positive up to the main battery, disconnect the ground cable, toss the AUX off a high bridge. I've been running mine this way for a couple of months without issue ... the ESS system works as intended. It will default to the service ESS light after 6 cycles, but resets at the next restart. No need to run a jumper or strip out any harnesses. If you are running enough accessories to push the amp hr limit then consider a Genesis system.

The small battery ground cable can be disconnected, which disconnects the small battery.

How bad is the drain in these? I ask because usually for work I'll be parking my JTRD for 2 weeks at a time. Rather not be coming back to a dead battery.

I'm just saying what I heard which may be write or wrong. I still have the original battery in mine as well, 51,000 miles in and purchased February 2020. Who knows but it just seems like a lot of people who don't use the ESS have battery issues, I've read it numerous times, in numerous threads on here and in other forums. Could just be a coincidence though.
Part of it is people who let the system work as designed (ESS) are more aware of what's going on with their vehicle.
My wife knows instantly if something isn't right, lets me know and I look into it. If the ESS was disabled, you'd pay less attention to how things are working.

And it's amazing how much hate there is for things people don't understand. How many times have I posted facts - actual tests, studies, by independent groups proving how much is saved, and yet the hate and refusal to believe facts and science persists.
In the days of the internet, misinformation, bad information, just plain wrong stuff is more likely to be believed because it comes from peers.

Watch, I'll blow things up later in another area about electrical stuff - and I'll for sure get push-back from someone who never made their living as an electrician or mechanic, either one.

Right - take it off the top of the IBS on the crank battery neg.
Just be sure to leave the cable from crank battery to body ground alone!

For a 2 week sit, I'd put a battery minder on it.
