Alright, another update for you all with the Insane Diesel bypass and aux. oil cooler. I took it down to Southern Utah last week to do some off-roading.

On the drive there, it's an 80mph speed limit almost the whole way. Nothing is truly flat here but mostly mild grades with a few steeper grades that have passing lanes for semi-trucks. I put the cruise control on 80mph and didn't have to worry about it once. It ran 225-230 oil temp almost the entire time. Up the steeper grades it'd downshift to 7th and climb to 239 oil temp. This is a MASSIVE improvement from my past experiences driving this same road and I'm still on 42s.

42's will stay on for another couple weeks but once I swap back to my 40's, I'll do a quick update.

Do you have any pics of your cooler install? I have the ID kit but have not found a good location for the cooler...

id like to see an intake in the hood similar to what comes with the Mopar cold air intake.
Exactly, add the ability to swap in a snorkel extension when needed and you have something worth dropping some coin.

I don’t run a spare under the bed so that’s where it is.
Ignore all the surface rust :(

Have you noticed and oil pressure drop hot or cold?

Well the MOPAR snorkel (part # 82215350AC) looks cool but who knows if it is even applicable to our diesels let alone makes a difference.

Won’t fit, wrong side. Says right in the description it only fits gasoline engines, 3.6L V6 or 2.0L I4. But yes that would be the setup that I would like.

This is my first post. Thank you all for posting so much information on this overheating challenge. I live in Phoenix AZ. Purchased a used 2021 Gladiator Rubicon late August 2023. Tow an overland pop-up trailer (MDC Robson), about 5,000 lbs. Only significant changes are 37” tires, and because of this thread, removed hood insulation,
Tazer Mini, and installed aux cooler from Bulletproof Diesel.

Towed trailer from Phoenix up the I-17 to Camp Verde then to Rim Road trail (Mogollon Rim). Elevation at start approximately 1,100 ft to 7,800 ft total. Left Sunday morning at 06:00 to beat the Phoenix heat, temp was about 86 degrees at start, about 78 degrees at trail on the Rim. I maintained 55 mph most of the way to Camp Verde. From Camp Verde to the summit was the real test and was able to maintain at least 45 mph with a max oil temp of 247 degrees.

Route back was from Payson to Phoenix Wednesday evening. Temperature during toughest pull was 92 degrees at 21:00, slowed down to 45 mph, max oil temp 255 degrees.

I am pleased with these results as my Gladiator is a “jack of all trades” and fits the needs and fun for our family. Still going to install Motobilt Hood vents and pull engine insulation to see if heat dissipates faster/ better.

Thanks for everyones sharing of info.

Do you have temps before the mods in the same conditions? Gears?

After combing through this thread I settled for building my own and stuffing it on my front bumper as I use my Jeep for rock crawling and off-road only. I threw 4 fans on the back as well. This solved my de-rating issues going up I-70 and other passes when towing. I also had issues de-rating when cruising (no tow) at outside temps above 100F. I am on 37"'s with factory gears.

In May we travelled from Phoenix to Painted Rock campground near Gila Bend taking mostly side roads with a 10 mile stretch on the highway. Only a 500 foot difference in elevation. The freeway section was flat, temp was 91 degrees traveling at 55 mph, oil temps around 240 - 247 degrees. Side road travel at 45 mph oil temps in the entire range of 230 - 240 degrees. After the BPF aux cooler, flat highway towing at 55 mph I am consistently seeing oil temp 228 degrees.

The 6 degree climbs really heat the oil, even with the Tazer mini actuating the radiator at max speed.

I drive in manual shift mode and try to stay in the between 1400 and 2000 rpm, if I see coolant temps above 215 degrees, I engage the max radiator fan speed using the taser mini (only need it when ascending).

This is not an ideal towing platform for the Phoenix climate, but I love the Jeep platform for trails/off-roading and I love using the diesel for off-roading as well.

I never had an issue with de-rating (not towing) but I rarely drive faster than 65mph so that is probably why I never had an issue before.

I still have the stock Rubicon gears. Hope this helps.

Has anyone actually confirmed the 24 grille actually makes a difference? I need to repaint my chipping black grille and was just thinking getting a flat black 24 if it actually made an improvement.

If you towed a 5,000lb trailer at elevation in 91 degree weather and saw 255.. I would call that a magnificent win. Sounds like you haven't regeared either, which I haven't either for my 37's. In similar weather on big pulls I see 255 unloaded, just passengers and maybe some minor gear.

I hadn't looked at the aux radiator from bullet proof until just now. I'm curious about mounting though because I do have a stubby bumper with a winch, which sounds like it might cause interference and/or I'll lose clearance and when approaching a rock, you probably don't want your oil running so close to it. Before I call and ask, has anyone else hand any luck mounting anywhere else?

You've got oil running through this bad boy? Curious how hot the actual radiator gets, but that is some impressive manufacturing. Makes me wonder what I'd be up to if I had a heated and cooled garage space.

I've got a gasser and noticed no change in driving temps with my aftermarket 2024 grille. I've only had it 48 hours though. I'd get in contact with RPM Extreme and see if their fan controller can work with the diesel.

It's in the oil cooler loop so coolant only.
