Well that was disappointing. While towing with a GCW around 10,000 lbs. I climbed Blewett Pass, which has a long mellow approach and then a moderately steep "passing lane" highway grade for the last ~800 vertical feet. On the final climb (which isn't much by Western US standards) oil temp shot up pretty quickly to 242 degF. A/C was on because it was 32 degF and SNOWING. I can see how this becomes a real problem real quick in temperatures above freezing. Also I wasn't pushing it hard, still had pedal left and it was a short climb. The total cooling capacity is obviously hilariously undermatched for the power the engine produces. I'd do the boot mod to lower intake air temp but I don't have a Rubicon to vent the hood.

Been thinking about an extra fuel tank because I hate stopping every 175 or so to fill up. Mind sharing how you built your setup?
Tank is plumbed in through the the fill line. We used a summit racing T with a check valve. Had to reduce the size or the T to fit the fill hose on the jeep. The check valve allows me to leave the fuel draining all the time into the main tank. Works great.

Could just drill holes in the skidplate/liners to get some airflow

You’d probably be better off putting in some NACA ducts vs just cutting straight holes. VW and Audi do that on their underbody trays and skid plates to pull air in where they need extra cooling.

Anyone try this...?
https://dv8offroad.com/collections/jeep-jt-hoods/products/dv8-heat-hood-jeep-jl-hdmjl-01

Site says compatible with JT.
Says not compatible with Mojave or 392 models, but doesn't specifically exclude ecodiesel.

Would like to see someone in a hot, hilly climate (anyone in AZ ?) try it out and give us some real world results.

If anything might provide an expanded spot for the guys looking to place a secondary oil cooler.

And it does look pretty bad a$$. I've seen one on a JL gasser in a San Diego dealership. Also on SEMA videos.

Not interested in going from an aluminum hood to a heavier steel hood. The eco is already heavy in the front…

Looks like it should work on the diesel. Might make room for an oil cooler or something up top with that extra rise in the hood.

Anyone pulled their fender liners to see if that helps or causes undesirable airflow paths under the hood? If pulling the fender liners works, maybe these would help be useful?

Make sure you get Diesel Fender Liners, they are not the same as Gas. The Diesel has a great big Windshield washer tank behind there on the drivers side... My Dad just got done changing over to a small washer tank on his JL to get the Gasser Liners to work... it is a process and requires some fab work... Search the JL forums I saw a write up at some point on what was required.

I'm not too interested in changing my hood out, BUT like PJZ mentioned.....that could give us a potential mounting location that wont get hit by rocks! Of course some people might lose their shit having to leave the engine cover off? ?

Wont' fit 392 or Mojave because they have a taller cowl than the rest of us do.

I was thinking going this route once my b2b warranty is up. Would install some of these oil coolers maybe with fans, if needed....

My bad on that, but there are coolers shaped that way and that’s the only pic I could find quickly

You're thinking about a heat sink style.
