I cannot image 37s on 4.10. But to each their own.
It's just weird at 70mph. It can't hold 8th gear if there is a 5mph head wind on flat ground. On 37s would you even see 6th gear?
Ya small headwinds drop me to 7th for sure on 37's at that speed, if I mess around and manually shift back to 8th sometimes the MPG's gets worse, sometimes better. Overall our automatic transmissions in these rigs are pretty good.

I drove an hour today on flat ground into a headwind. I'm on 35s and 4.10s. Never got to 8th once averaging 65-70mph. I'm regearing.

I have 35x11.5 on my Mojave and don't have an issue with it. I can hold 8th on flat and slight inclines. I don't feel any difference over the stock tires it came with.
Yes, my thoughts exactly regarding going with 35X11.5's as opposed to 35X12.5's. I'm also not a fan of the negative off set beyond the fenders for both slinging debris as well as looks via the 12.5's.

I have the 35x12.5 and hit 8th on the freeway most of the time but it does drop lower if an inclined or headwind. If I go to 37s my thought is going 4.88s based on driving lots of miles before going off road. Also after listening to Rory Irish and his issues with 5.13s that cemented it for me.

Going through this thread, seeing a lot of people gear hunting while on larger tires.

Jeep Gladiator Mojave should come with 4.56 gears 4.10s dont cut it 1737963876248-z

This is an image I pulled from another thread.

For the JT, 6th gear sits at a 1:1 ratio. Has anybody thought about even locking the TC at 6th gear instead of letting it hunt to 7th and 8th without even being able to hold it?

Reason I asked is on my Tundra, with 4.30, I locked the TC in 4th since it was a 1:1 gear ratio. Sure the revs were sitting a little higher, but this at least allowed me to not feel as sluggish sitting on larger tires.

Thoughts?

My 2024 Mojave just passed 1000 miles. I came from a 2020 sport with pizza cutters. (255/75)
The Mojave has to work very hard compared to the sport
.
70 on the hwy the Mojave only holds 8th gear on flats without any head wind.
Often dropping to 4th and near redline to hold speed.

The 285s are just too much rolling resistance

Going to 35s so I will regearbbut why does jeep think 4.10 is short enough for these tires is beyond me.

Other than gearing love this truck
Thats crazy. I went all the way up to 37s with 4.10s and didn't bother to regear until my winter loudout was just to heavy to pull off comfortably. I've never had a gear hunt problem though, even when towing my 19ft NOBO on 35s. I also only live in hills and mountains though. its always 6 going up and 8 coming down. My only flat experience was driving it back from Ohio when i first got it and it pretty much held 8th the whole way. I'm on 4.88s now, and lord they are way deeper than i thought they'd be. Makes my 37s feel small.

Great input! I was thinking of not re-gearing and going with the Toyo Open Country 35"X11.50 due to their only being about a 1 lbs. difference in increased weight over the stock 33" WP's. I think the weight difference over the stock configuration may be the most significant adverse outcome even over the circumference difference, if I'm correct in assuming. Of course, Tazer or dealer calibration is key as well, eh?

The unsprung weight is a factor to consider. I went with BFG K02 because the weight was so close to that of the stock tires. I calibrate to the new tire size so the shift points are correct. In the end your specific driving style will dictate what you need.

Thanks, seems like very good, solid advice.

I agree with this. I have 285/75/17 Open Country AT3s on a Max Tow sport and it needs more gear.

Sure I guess with the factory wheels and tires it's fine. Who keeps those? :)
